My V1 has saved my bacon on numerous occasions.
The units purchased new now have filters for the ever increasing prevalence on new vehicles of blind spot sensors operating in K Band. My older unit needs the software update but I haven't succumbed to the need yet due to the cost of the update.
On a recent MINI trip to the Great Smokies there was so much highway interference in K Band during the transit out due to all of the new emitters on newer cars that I started to ignore the hits in this band. The fact that most law enforcement systems these days operate in Ka or laser bands leads one to a false sense of security. We learned this the hard way in Townsend, TN in light fog on our way to the Dragon -- the local constable was using a K Band unit that we ignored until it was too late, and the last two MINIs in our caravan got popped for doing 67 in a 45 zone.
The rest of us pulled over about 200 yards down the road (where the pic below was taken) but being the loyal and supportive group that we are, we quickly fled to exit the town limits and waited for our unfortunate mates to catch up with us at the Foothills Parkway entrance.

How many cars escaped? The visuals of a caravan of MINIs going 67 in a 45, on a 2 lane road in the fog, going around a curve,...and a deer jumping onto the road are just horrible.

When I was into VW's, a guy got a speeding ticket for doing 87 in a 65 mph zone. He framed it. True story...

Yah...right...neither do I.
..and a quote from a local website regarding the use of detectors as opposed to jammers.
Note that with only laser detection on a radar detector, it provides zero protection because you won't have time to react to the quick speed aquisition on a police laser gun. -

I currently have a Whistler. I've had Escorts in the past and they have been very good.
I've had a detector since the Fuzz Buster came out 30 years ago. It wasn't very good. Since I got my first good one, an Escort in '84 I haven't had a speeding ticket. But it isn't just the detector, it's how you use it. Escort use to supply a great little book on how to read the detector's warnings. I still use that info today.
For lasers it's already been said it works when there is traffic and it picks up the scatter. You can also reduce the targets or target area. In Ohio they are taught to aim at the front plate. I folded it down and mounted it at an angle (all 100% legal in Ohio) They shoot at it don't get a lock and I get the scatter reading. -
I usually just look for the guy with one and follow him.

Hey Jeff, the only ticket you will get for not having a front plate in Ohio is from the meter maid when parked. I haven't had a front plate for 10 years, been stopped for speed many times and never questioned about a front plate. If it's a feeding frenzy, the Bears are starving. -
Radar Jammers are still around, but they are high dollar. Just ask someone that runs some of the rallys.
I am leaning towards valentine one, But I like the way the Escort app works with there radar detector. I have a very old Escort now but it does not work if it gets hot. -
I use a Escort Solo S2 because it is cordless, it works great and has saved
me many, many times over the years. -

67 in a 45...........and in the fog.
Sorry, no sympathy here. -
Anyway, no sympathy sought. We learned our lesson.
