If it weren't for bad luck you would have no luck at all!

curious: what's the suspension travel on those rear shocks? i think stock 2013 STi ones is like 10sm (4.5 inch)?
PS. i asked You same question in some other thread so it could be a double post -
i tried to send You a PM like 10 times but always get a "server error" crap
so posting it here:
hi Chris,
i removed rear suspension yesterday and measured stock shock travel.
a whooping 12 sm lol.
if i push free hanging rear control arm down it'll go another 1,5-2 sm before noticeable resistance.
i think if i push it further it'll affect bushings quite a bit.
just wondering how did You manage to ad 2+ inch (aprox. 5 sm) to rear suspension travel?
i was lurking around universal Bilstein shocks and struts for a while and while it's easy to chose front struts rear ones are rather tricky =o(
was also exercising the idea of modifying rear rails to move mounting points further up but then again the rules require mounting points to stay factory.
modifying top plates would let me accommodate slightly longer shocks.
got to think about it.
curious what springs do You use for rears now. and valving for Your current setup?
thanks
PS. Bilstein also makes Heavy Duty shocks/struts for offroading but i'm sure suspension travel is stock on those.

Sorry Alex about the PMs I got adjustable laterals to set up the camber after raising the ride height Originally I used 2013 STI rear struts which I found out were not up to the job after a few stage miles. I figure the swinging arm of the Mini put more forces on the damper than the STI. So I went the the Reiger set up which has less spring LBS but much better damper control. I would think a really good gravel damper would work. Also I made my own STI/Mini top mount. The problem with the rear suspension is the arc the wheel travels, the further up the travels goes the more negative camber you get. Just a poor design for what want to do. LOL

Dear fellow Minists I have been enjoying weeks of shameless driving around CR with no issues. Also there are 2 Mini's at work A Coupe and Gen 2 Cooper. Woooo hooooo mine is the of the bunch at work! I'm not biased lol.
As a side note : I was out on the Triumph today. Yeah a mild winter -

Off back to CR on Sunday. Got a few little jobs to do and take I rim with me, plus a Holley carburetor for 1976 Land Cruiser. Also I've found another knackered Midlands that I plan to build into a spare box, just need to drive down to Milford CT to collect it. Weather is a toasty 92F.

Bag packed

I bet the customs guys think your nuts! Years ago I had a flight with a layover in Mexico. I was lifting and working out pretty hard back then. So I put enough creatine in a plastic bag to last me till I got home. Creatine is a white powder. So not good head work. We get in around 6AM and as usual we have to wake up the customs guy. He walks over half asleep yawning, opens my bag and there in top is a bag full of white powder! His eyes bug out and he about had a coronary. He rips the bag open licks his finger, I start to yell NOOO!, but it was to late he was all ready sticking it in the bag for a taste. He licks his finger shakes his had closes the bag. Having past the drug test he sends me on.
A month or so later I come to work to fly to DC. When I get there they ask if I will hop on a plane they are holding and go to Paris for a week instead. In flight I remembered I had my supplements with me. This time I just poured the creatine down the drain. -

You can't go wrong with holeys. I love mine for their look and their low weight helps to take some weight off the car.
Here's to a successful season for you! -

Hahaha the white powder story is funny. I don't have any issues because I carry a Lush bath bomb in my other bag. They think it is an apple so don't bother with the other stuff. LOL
Not much going on regarding the Mini. I'm having gear selection issues at high RPM, crunch crunch in all gears. The clutch pedal has to be fully planted to the floor to get 1st without a crunch. Just 1/4" is all I have until the clutch bites. I bled the system but the issue is still there so I suspect the clutch is on the way out. Well it has been in there since 2012 and taken tons of abuse. Looks like another gearbox out session! My favourite routine..LOL -

haha yes! actually the electrical issue has gave me some experience to help other Mini owners. Like the guy who had a Mini on 3 cylinders, he is not mechanically minded but I helped him determine the issue and get his Mini back on the road without major cost. Turned out to be a broken valve spring which he changed without removing the head.

Back here again with a bag looking like the one in the photo. The mini started up fine but the SES light came on after a few miles. All seemed well so I drove to work and did a scan check because I always carry that tool. Code P0128 (took to long to warm up)and P0704(clutch pedal switch system fault) came up which were new to me, I did a reset and the SES went out.....maybe the Mini missed having a fault and threw them just to scare me. LOL
