Off back to CR on Sunday. Got a few little jobs to do and take I rim with me, plus a Holley carburetor for 1976 Land Cruiser. Also I've found another knackered Midlands that I plan to build into a spare box, just need to drive down to Milford CT to collect it. Weather is a toasty 92F.
I bet the customs guys think your nuts! Years ago I had a flight with a layover in Mexico. I was lifting and working out pretty hard back then. So I put enough creatine in a plastic bag to last me till I got home. Creatine is a white powder. So not good head work. We get in around 6AM and as usual we have to wake up the customs guy. He walks over half asleep yawning, opens my bag and there in top is a bag full of white powder! His eyes bug out and he about had a coronary. He rips the bag open licks his finger, I start to yell NOOO!, but it was to late he was all ready sticking it in the bag for a taste. He licks his finger shakes his had closes the bag. Having past the drug test he sends me on. A month or so later I come to work to fly to DC. When I get there they ask if I will hop on a plane they are holding and go to Paris for a week instead. In flight I remembered I had my supplements with me. This time I just poured the creatine down the drain.
Buen viaje, Chris! You can't go wrong with holeys. I love mine for their look and their low weight helps to take some weight off the car. Here's to a successful season for you!
Hahaha the white powder story is funny. I don't have any issues because I carry a Lush bath bomb in my other bag. They think it is an apple so don't bother with the other stuff. LOL Not much going on regarding the Mini. I'm having gear selection issues at high RPM, crunch crunch in all gears. The clutch pedal has to be fully planted to the floor to get 1st without a crunch. Just 1/4" is all I have until the clutch bites. I bled the system but the issue is still there so I suspect the clutch is on the way out. Well it has been in there since 2012 and taken tons of abuse. Looks like another gearbox out session! My favourite routine..LOL
As the reigning guru of Midland transmission rebuilds and knowing it isn't an electrical problem I kinda figured you'd be jumping for joy.......for real !!
haha yes! actually the electrical issue has gave me some experience to help other Mini owners. Like the guy who had a Mini on 3 cylinders, he is not mechanically minded but I helped him determine the issue and get his Mini back on the road without major cost. Turned out to be a broken valve spring which he changed without removing the head.
Back here again with a bag looking like the one in the photo. The mini started up fine but the SES light came on after a few miles. All seemed well so I drove to work and did a scan check because I always carry that tool. Code P0128 (took to long to warm up)and P0704(clutch pedal switch system fault) came up which were new to me, I did a reset and the SES went out.....maybe the Mini missed having a fault and threw them just to scare me. LOL
You see the Mini missed me...no error codes today. I'm still loving the short ration midlands box and the gear whine!
I'm still alive! just LOL The Mini is running fine so far ssssshhhh I changed the oil and V belt last night in between the monsoon rain. Next job is to FIA certify the cage. I had a pre-check last month and all looked good apart from some gussets need to be added to the X part of the cage in the door ways. Also the seat belt angle is incorrect. I hope to have that done next month. All these changes are part of an ongoing safety improvement. Also I'm saving for the clutch and synchro rings to stop the crunch crunch at high RPM shifts. As for the rallies? none in sight.
Nice to see you still kicking it, no rallys in sight, does that mean nothing (nada), not even local stuff? How dreary! Good to see you are making safety changes. Don
I have not fitted the Holeys because I need one more which I need to look for on Ebay. Yes no rallies down here so far but driving here is like a rally everyday! LOL
