You need like 3 Rally monkeys to fix that car......Tell the wife its gonna be a few weeks before you can home
Gracias WMWNY tambien. With the help of some monkeys the Mini is now back on the road. The mechanic seemed to have loosened the intake and forgot to tighten it up again.......the problem was a lot of water in the engine harness????? I dried it out, soldered in some new wires and boom the engine ran like a champ. Also I got to do some test driving.
sorry folks I was not able to post anything for many reasons. The Mini is still alive and soon will evolve ...stay tuned
OK so since 2012 the good old Mini MF had failed to finish more rallies than started, the Current spec is pretty crazy, !40HP , Peugeot race straight cut gear set(90mph at 6500rpm), cable clutch conversion and still, the fu$King gearbox explodes and the suspension breaks. game over! time to evolve......I love the body shape bu the mechanical parts nope
what's the plan? you know I have battled with the Mini since 2012. When it's running we win but most of the time it's not running. I have rallied many cars but only the Subaru has never failed to finish. I love the R50/53 shape and over the years we have gained a following. Not finishing is bad for all. So this year the rally in CR opened an open class and will expand this class next year. After talking with our sponsors we decided not finishing is not exactly good. I told then I want to build something special, something that the fans will want to come and see. I have a Mini with Subaru STI suspension, Nissan 13B cable clutch, Suzuki Swift throw out bearing, Peugeot straight cut gearset and a lot of other strange things which has inspired folks to rally a Mini so why not a Subaru conversion? As with this build I will try to document good/bad everything I do with the hope others might follow or say this dude is nuts. LOL press on regardless
Chris this is quite a project you are taking on. Is this going to be an awd conversion? That should be fun. Nothing worse than a farking DNF. Good luck & keep us old farts in the loop.
EBC are supporting me again and will be sending a full set of rotors/pads the Outback. The conversion is going to be AWD and NA. I went with the SOHC engine because then I can get the spark plugs out.and have a little more room. Currently, I'm selling off all the Mini stuff
I'm not sure you will have enough room to remove the plugs once that wide boxer engine is strapped down in the MINI's engine room. Maybe cut some access holes in the strut towers.
the DOHC no but the SOHC are angled up so once I get the engine in we will see. I did think to keep all the Mini wheels and do a 5 lug to 4 lug adaptor but seeing as there are many more stronger lighter Subaru rims I might stick with the Subaru 5 lug
Changing the plugs in my Forester 2.5 was a royal pain in the arse. That is why I made that comment. As far as wheels go I sure would not use adapters for your use. It will add a weak link to your drive-train. Fact is I wouldn't use adapters anywhere.
