That "crowd" has their right to enjoy their cars as the please as do the rest of us. I am not a fan of it but it is interesting to see what different folks do with their rides.

N2MINI MINI of the Month
We all see plenty is MINIs/Minis at MOTD each year that we like and dislike for whatever reason. If he wants to drag the ground with his it's no different to me then someone who has some awful looking graphic on the side of their MINI with wheels to match, but I don't go running around telling everyone what I think of it.. They may not like my car either, and you know what I don't care. I didn't do it for them.. To each their own I say.. If I don't like it I just want look at it, much!!

Rally New MemberMotoring Alliance Founding SponsorYou guys must have such a hard time at ice cream shops . Do you get worked up when the stranger in line in front of you orders a flavor you don't like? Do you tap them on the shoulder and tell them that their favorite ice cream flavor is wrong?
The best part about all of this is that I had absolutely no intention of bagging the car, haha.-

Rally New MemberMotoring Alliance Founding SponsorWell, by all means, those cars are "slammed", regardless of the intent by which they arrived there . Those cars are both insanely low.
You are aware that Minis (including many of the race cars due to rules and regulations) ride around on rubber cones that are basically glorified bumpstops, right?
I'd be interested in hearing the rationalization or background information that you've used to jump to the conclusion that a rubber bag inflated with air to provide an effective spring rate would handle worse than a cone-shaped piece of rubber.
Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but it seems that you're interjecting somewhat disrespectful generalizations based solely on your lack of information about the topic at hand. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.
Either way, there are no plans to bag it. It'll be low because that's one of the many things I personally find enjoyable, but it'll be on hi-los.-

Rally New MemberMotoring Alliance Founding SponsorPreface: You see the flaw in judging me and speaking poorly of my intentions for the new car that I'm excited about based on the generalization of an entire subculture, right?
To your points,
1 - You'd be hard pressed to find someone who insists that poke/stretch has ZERO effect on performance. I'll sit and discuss to what EXTENT it effects performance, but I'd never say it has ZERO effect. Most of the time they'll tell you "Yeah, it effects performance, but I'm not building my car for performance."
2 - Unfortunately, there are some inconsiderate people on both sides. I don't think the 'bad apples' on either side are right for demeaning others simply because their tastes are different. Surely you've heard the saying.....two wrongs don't make a right. At StanceWorks we do our best to celebrate and condone both sides and encourage a positive relationship between enthusiasts of all sorts.
3 - You honestly think that because I like to lower my cars I'm not a real auto enthusiast? I may prefer to lower my personal cars, but I have a blast with all sorts of cars and styles....I love it all. Had you taken the time to read the article at the beginning of this thread you'd see that I traveled back to Ohio to go watch a bunch of stock-height vintage cars race around the track.....something I love doing. If you take a second to actually get to know me and my company rather than judge me right off the bat for my tire size or ride height, you'd find that I spend quite a few weekends at tracks around the country as I work with the BMW ALMS team and thoroughly enjoy watching those amazing machines perform. I love race cars, I love lowriders, I love American muscle, I love stock concours cars, I love hotrods, the list is endless.
An auto enthusiast is someone that derives joy from cars. You'll have a difficult time convincing me that I don't fit that definition just because some of my personal cars happen to be lowered.-

1. I have argued the poke / stretch performance thing on Vortex numerous times, and that is where I take my statement from. Actually I had that debate at both H20 and Waterfest as well.
2. You are right there are bad apples on both sides.
3. I am impressed with your statement - I am wrong in calling you a non enthusiast - but again previous experience persuades me that you are more the exception than the norm. Good luck with the classic.

Rally New MemberMotoring Alliance Founding SponsorI know! I was looking for you guys but I must have missed you through all of the rain. I hope you've been well

The Miglia racers as well. They are required by rules to retain the stock pick-up points and simply use race-cones and hi-los. They run their cars exceptionally low and we've all seen how well they handle.
Oh well, no sense in worrying about those who are quick to judge.-

Rally New MemberMotoring Alliance Founding SponsorAs I said previously, you (as with anybody else) are entitled to your own (subjective) opinion. It's entirely reasonable for you to say "I personally don't like cars that are lowered that much".
The flaw in your logic is that you can't take that subjective opinion and use it to apply objective values to my car(s). To be "ruined" is an actual state of being, much like length or weight. A car is either ruined or it's not....it's not a matter of opinion.
You used terminology such as that to be demeaning towards a group of people that you don't happen to agree with in terms of style. Surely you see how silly it is to talk down to fellow car enthusiasts simply because they enjoy their cars in a manner that differs from your own, don't you? Labeling people as "posers" and insinuating that they will "ruin" their cars simply because your taste and their taste are different? I'm sorry, but I believe we should all treat each other with respect...even if we happen to like different things.
I'm fairly certain you don't and that's the cause of your judgmental attitude.-

Certainly a great description of the love and appreciation one can come to know about the Classic Mini. Enjoy and all the best for you!

Rally New MemberMotoring Alliance Founding SponsorThanks guys, I'm really enjoying it so far :biggrin5:
I did not know one could use subjective opinions to apply objective values such as "ruined". That seems flawed to me, but that's cute. Thanks for the input. -

Is garage autodelta's mini ruined?
How about the Fortech mini?

They're both probably lower than Andrew's will get, and still seem to get on OK... -
Dave.0 Helix & RMW PoweredLifetime SupporterSorry but those are real "race cars" and they perform as such. They are not bagged and slammed for the sole purpose of looking "cool" by just "stance".
