That STPR video brought back fond memories. Stood in that same place & spectated in 1979. There sure are nice roads in that part of the country.
Glad to see that rally continues in Africa. I wish the WRC would go back to Kenya & revive the Safari Rally.

I'm pretty sure the Safari still exists, but it's just part of the FIA-Africa calendar, not the main FIA calendar. Still, I do love old vids of the safari. Pearl of Africa (Uganda) looks pretty good, too, but I think it's somewhat short. I do love that stadium rally stage, though. Stadium stages (or whatever the term is) are a good thing, in my min d. I eventually want to go to the Oregon Trail rally, which uses PIR for a stage (oops, I linked to that above!).
I live in my native San Diego now, but I spent a total of 14 years in Pennsylvania and Vermont, which happen to be rally states (PA with STPR, and VT with a tuning company called Vermont SportsCar, I think. Not sure what events are in VT.) -
Some cool Saab action. More of a hillclimb, I guess, but definitely on a nice dirt rally road.

Wow, group B. I do have to ask, what do people think as those rally cars rip by about 6 inches from their noses. A rush I am sure, but they are all targets. Wow!
Oh, great video, thanks for sharing.

Killing spectators was only one part. The deaths of Henri Toivonen & Surgio Cresto was the final nail me thinks.

us old 'un have seen road rally, to rally to group B, to Group A, to kit cars to WRC . I still marvel at the Group B hp figures for the 80's. I think Audi were up to 650bhp before the FIA banned Group B in 1986. I was there for the final rally...very emotional. Tony Pond got 3rd in the RAC rally in the 6R4. All those Brit drivers are now in some other place. Tony Pond, Roger Clark, Richard Burns, Colin Mcrae, Mark Lovell to list a few.

^^^ Good one Chris. Today it is funny, but at one time **%$!#! :incazzato: I've been there myself & would have punted the bozo off the road, but my co-driver reminded me we'd need the lights for the upcoming night stages. :mad2:

I'm a big fan of the TR8 and Fiat Abarth 131 both good Escort beaters in the right hands.

I don't think I'd ever seen a TR7 rallying before this video.

Those TR7 V8's were wonderful cars. John Buffum drove one to great success in the US Pro Rally series. I'd love to have one of those.
Fiat shipped 2 131 Abarth's here to run in the Pro Rally series. They did not have any success.
