The SVT diff is a Torsen I thought I read the MINI's is a clutch type. The transmissions are the same.

I'd much rather have a Torsen. Although I'm so glad I spent my $500 on the LSD & not the DSC nanny when I ordered my MINI. The MA had never heard of anyone who did not want DSC. I think he thought I was nuts. He was right.

I have both, but have never pushed the DSC button. Doesn't that mean DeStruC(t) or something sinister like that?

I think this is correct and is the distinction. Doesn't the second gen Mini S r56 engine come from Peugeot? Seems I read that somewhere. The new engines are BMW products.:postcount

Jointly developed between Peugeot and BMW....

Peugeot owners claim they have a BMW engine.... LOL

Wasn't first gen and early second gen LSD's mechanical/clutch-type?

Yes they are, as I recall it was called a cone type LSD. It isn't a very aggressive lock up, but sure beats an open diff.

Transmissions in the MINI/Focus SVT are not the same... The side of the case on the MINI trans says MINI! Pretty sure the Ford doesn't... ;)
