Never had any issues with my reds on the Suzuki even on tarmac rallies. I had them nearly on fire at one point with no fade. For the Mini I'm using yellows.

Whoa Way... No need to freak out, 90% of MINI owners these days are happy paying the dealer $800 for factory brakes!

Hello,
I just registered to say that I too have EBC brake pads and failed by separating themselves from the metal part on both sides on front wheels (the inner part on both sides) and thankfully I did not have to do an emergency brake or brake hard on the highway!
The pads were EBC red stuff and had very very very very light use, no abuse at all. They failed after around 1year and half.
Below I add the pictures, my car is not a MINI, a Smart Roadster but it does not matter really, I just found this topic on the net and wanted to warn that this is not a reliable product! Please check your brake pads people.

While I continually am forced to learn life lessons I have discovered that no matter how closely I hold and embrace my anger it is not my friend. The natural consequences of defining ones self with anger is the expression of mean spirit, vengeance, contrariness, arrogance and control. To exercise these characteristics is to be an extremely inappropriate role model. When a member with a status like Lifetime Member acts out it most certainly reflects poorly on the MA Fourm. I can only encourage all lovers of anger to let it go....

I have EBC Greens on my R50 and Reds on my R53. I've never had a problem with either and the Greens have been on the R50 for the last 40k with minimal wear. The Reds have been on the R53 the last 2 years...daily driver, weekend track car, Dragonslayer. I like the brand and will continue buying.
Some people have had issues...I have not. Some people have become pretty vociferous on here about their displeasure with EBC. Again, I drive my R53 hard when I am at Mid Ohio, Putnam Park [IN], and on the roads around the Dragon. The R50 has been to Putnam Park and the Dragon. I don't know how hard the complainers drive their cars to make their pads fail, but, I find it hard to fault the pads I have because of the complaints. I keep the fluids changed and have s/s brakelines in each car.
Perhaps the complainers should get pads that are more compliant with their driving styles, instead.
Just my 2c on what has become a touchy issue.-

Contrary to popular belief, the Dos Equis guy is NOT the most interesting man in the world. He is, however, in the top ten.

And a clarification: "The right to be stupid" Zen quote was not directed at any particular single individual. It was plural.-

I am certain my wife's R53 [mid '06] will see him eventually, too...IF I can pry her keys from her. However, she just wants it to remain completely stock, so I guess I'll have to be verrrry careful and mod it some when she is not looking...:ihih:.
Yes, we are a 3 Gen 1 family.-

Pretty disturbing stuff. I've never had any pad separate like that & hope I never do. Thanks for the heads up Dave.

Both sets that is disturbing, I wonder if EBC changed plants that make the EBC Reds.
That is a heavy liability issue, I hope they recall.

This isn't the first time I've heard of trouble with EBC friction materials but it's the first time I've heard of entire pads coming off the backing plate intact.

Just to be clear I personally had this issue with twice with my EBC Reds. One set was from Way and the second set was from EBC directly to replace the first set.
* Way (WMW) has no control over EBC's quality he is just a reseller.
When I spoke to EBC customer service they said they have never had heard of this problem before but I know this in not true. My friends EBC greens failed the exact same way months before and if you search the web you will see other reporting the same problem. -

Sucks, because I'm liking mine... but yeah, it's unacceptable, and scary, given how and where I drive... I kinda need them to work ALL the time.

EBC brake Pad fail. MX-5
by sarahlc » Fri Jul 06, 2012 5:17 pm
For the second time now I have had a EBC green stuff pad fail due to the friction material separating from the backing pad. The first time a couple of years ago was a front pad. The second time was this morning when the friction material from a rear pad fell out and smash its self on the road as I went to apply the brakes, I pressed the brake peddle and it went straight to the floor , I quickly lifted and reapplied and I came to a stop as normal. A quick look at the rear brakes quickly revealed a pad had failed, and I quickly found the friction material a few yards back in lots of pieces. Now I was only going about 15mph when it happened, but I hate the thought that this could of happened at a worse time and at a much higher speed.
One failed pad as far I am concerned could be put down to bad luck, but with 2 failed pads now, and I am starting to think that EBC have a friction material bonding problem. A quick search on the internet has turned up similar stories of EBC pads failing. I don't think I will be going with EBC pads again, and certainly not greenstuff.
And BMW failures in Europe.

Dave, did you follow the recommended bed-in procedure for both sets? Curious if this has any effect good or bad.

Checked the green stuffed pads on our Meotter & all is well. I don't plan on changing them out now, but will keep an eye on them.
