Sounds like the parking brakes are sticking....

Normal.
My '09 Clubman S makes so much noise as I back out of the driveway, especially if I haven't driven it for a couple of days but within a block or two they're fine....and I know the pads and rotors are fine - so I just don't worry about it. -
Cool, thanks!

The rotors being raw metal & rust really fast. I get this sometimes & it goes away after a few brake applications.

Some airplanes I used to fly did the same thing and we called it "morning sickness."

I get the same noise even after I wash the car and let it sit for a few hours before driving. The rotors rust very quick.

Ummmm... Mine is garaged but it did do this once and I cleaned and lubed the guide pins and then adjusted the parking brake. Problem gone. 2cents

Back on topic... :ihih:
I get the "grind" out of the rears in the morning here. Two stop signs later its fine. -

Brakes are a part of a car that if you have to ask this question take it to a shop that specializes in brakes. Do not trust (although great answers) forum responses in this matter. You need to have someone qualified examine them for any possible damaged. Your life as well mine could be at stake.

My situation maybe diff than yours (for example I know I personally inspected the pads for wear less than 60 days ago)
Take it to the pro's.
You could offer more data, how old are pads?, when was last time brake fluid flushed? age of rotors?, etc Even then it's a opinion -
2010 w/under 6K miles. After 2 stops (end of driveway and first stop sign) the grinding is gone. I looked this morning and saw oxidation on the braking surfaces of the rotor.

It's been a couple months but used an oil change and winter tire swap to have a MINI mechanic take a look and brakes are all good. It's rust build-up while the car sits....

Thanks for the heads up. We knew that.

Mine make a whirring sound that I can hear while slowly driving out of my apt complex. I think it goes away eventually but I usually attribute it to the parking brake dragging some. I also have 50k miles and there are some pretty good "lips" on the very edges of the disks where the pad doesn't hit. Wonder if I should file them off?

I probably wouldn't bother doing that. Are you still on the oem pads? If so you have to be close to new brake pad & rotor time.
My brakes make a whirring that I attribute to my slotted rotors. -

Hey I can do a car wash, wipe down then let the car sit for 4 hours on the CM or the 07 MCS and get grind.
MINI pads attract sticky rust. Just go out and drive them hard.
