Here is a picture of my RSD that I picked up used 2 years ago at MOTD. The floor under it is double dynamatted and the under side of the RSD also has a think stick on foam sound deadner. Next I covered in in carpet and made an insert for the rear area between my RMW Meth tank and a JL 10 inch sub. *Note those ugly stock seats with Wet Okle covers have been removed and replaced with Mitsu Evo 9 Recaros since picture was taken.
A good location for sound barrier placement is behind the tail lights. The boot hatch, including the door trim. Insulating the battery box will cut down on road & exhaust noise. A little overkill. Since you plan on changing the speakers, apply deadener in the cavity. I could keep going, but I think you get the point.
Here is another version of a RSD. I used some lightweight sound baffles under the platform and it did a good job cutting down on the noise. Randy
Thanks K-huevo and maxmini. Great pictures and all the posts have answered questions and given me ideas. Jim
Been doing some searching, looking, checking and this seems to be less complicated then I thought it would be. Thinking I'll make by own cover, as the area is not that large. So, all I need is to get some sound proofing material and get started. Jim
Go for it Jim.... It won't have as many sides as that "Tack Box" you built. Don't forget to crank up that picture making magic box so we all can follow in your footsteps.
As is normally the case I couldn't just sit around and wait, so I took the seat backs out a few minutes ago. That just involves releasing a pressure clip and tilting to allow a key way to release. I will take some pictures, but Outmotoring has already covered this part very well here: Picasa Web Albums - outmotoring.com - How To Gen 2 ... What surprised me was the weight of each seat back. They are heavy suckers. I will find my hanging scale and post the weight later. Jim
Good grief. Each seat back is 15 pounds. Just removing them alone is a loss of 30 useless pounds of weight. Here is an even better "How To" for the seat removal. http://www.miniacal.com/remove_rear_seats/ Jim
First run after seat back removal. I can say that 30 pounds does make a difference. 1) Butt dyno says that pick up is a bit quicker. 2) ECU says that MPG has improved. 3) Completely certain that the view out the rear window is much better. Tomorrow, the new floor. Jim
