This makes me wonder if my own axel popping noise isn't from loose/missing bolts as well.
Can anyone tell me if the transmission bolts get loosened when you raise the engine up to install a pulley?

I believe my axle popping problems are over. The car is driving like it used to before all of this happened. The diff was bad that I got from Danny, but now my car is overheating..seems to be leaking coolant from somewhere. Topping the coolant off daily oh and my car no longer opens from the inside..gotta pull the door panel and see what happened.

Oh my RMW header is rattling again even though it was rebuilt by RMW's Mike who fabricated them....just never ends.
I let the car cool, cleaned the tank off, refilled it with MINI coolant, I cleaned the areas around the tank so no coolant was around. I drove for about 10 minutes..temps stayed around 195 as long as I was moving, sometimes going as low as 185, but as soon as I stopped would climb to 225 when the fan would come on. I pulled over and could smell coolant and could hear sizzling from what appeared to be coolant dropping on the header.
The tank had coolant on the outside of it, as well as on the nearby heatshields. A huge pool of coolant flowed under the car. I could detect steam coming from the coolant cap and could hear hissing from it. I took some iPhone video and will post it later.
Does that sound like anything other than a leaking coolant tank?

Here's what's going on

IT could be the tank
the cap, or just overflowing because you're getting vaporization somewhere in the head. I got a tank from Classic Auto Campus with the 20% NAM discount. It's an easy install. Others like the Al cans but they also put out more heat than the plastic does, and cost almost 10x as much!
Start with the cheap parts....

Thanks, yeah I've got a new tank on order which includes the cap. I saw those metal tanks but the cap alone costs $30! My local dealership wants twice of retail which was nuts but typical out here. Thanks for the help Matt.

I've had this happen as well, however not to the point of overheating and I have a metal tank that uses the OEM Cap.
The caps go bad. A MINI tech told me there are two types out in the wild. The only difference being the gasket.
I think he said:
Blue Gasket = Good
Black Gasket = Replace
No, the gasket does not change color, supposedly the blue gasket is made of better stuff.
I try and remember to verify at our MetroplexMINI.org DIY Day at MINI of Dallas.
BTW, the OEM cap is really inexpensive as MINI parts go. I think I paid 6-7 bucks. Good item to toss in glovebox. -

I'm pretty sure I have the blue gasket. My build date is 4/05 so it's exactly 5 years old now with 110,000 miles. I hope it's just the cap! When I get the new tank, I'll put see if the cap solves the problem before putting in the new tank.
I love you guys! lol....ok..I've been having some really difficult months with my MINI and was pretty much ready to dump it...but starting to feel the love again.
