What, my daily beater? Ported head, giant Mishimoto radiator, old KYB AGX shocks with Flyin' Miata springs, Racing Beat bars front and rear. It's a '94 so a 1.8L. I had to give the driver's seat a foamectomy so I could drive without hitting my head on the soft top bows, but usually I'm rocking the hardtop.
. I love Miataspeak. It's like a second language for me after 15 years. I'm just now starting to get Minispeak, but Miataspeak is native.
I've only been in the Miata world for about five years. I do remember when they came out, driving one around and thinking "this is one of the best-handling cars ever made." I still think so. BTW I forgot to mention that my old '94 has all urethane bushings, and the rears squeak a lot over rough pavement. I also have the car aligned to a spec between FM (too tame) and JD (too much camber for the street).
My '96 had a JRSC, FM and Koni suspension, HDHCSSDD, '93 LE interior, RB sways and a bunch of other crap. I still miss her. The current owner is in the process of dropping a cammed 350 in her.
HDHCSSDD = Hard Dog Hard Core Stainless Steel Double Diagonal... right? If I get that right I guess I know more about Miata stuff than I thought.
Update: I've added a bit to the splitter. Here's a pic of the original work. See the green arrow? That points to the bit I wasn't sure I liked. The corner sticking out looked a little bit unfinished to me. Over the weekend, I added a "flip-up" to each end of the splitter (shown below by the red arrow). Still foam and carbon fiber (blue buoyancy foam this time). Sculpting the foam took quite a bit of time! I think it finishes out the piece a bit better.
WOW, super nice job Mike. I like how you eliminated the typical turnbuckle supports. I agree, the finished ends look much better.
I saw this cross-posted on the GRM forum. Dr Mike explained the no-turnbuckle design there in a little more detail. The latest part is pretty damn impressive. homemade MINI Cooper front splitter-Page 2: Grassroots Motorsports forum: Grassroots Motorsports Magazine
Yep, old, trusty 16" Rotas. Currently with 40 series tires that are just too low profile (on 16 inch wheels) for the wheel arches, hence the wheel gap. I think the car looks better on 45 series tires (used to have Azenis RT-615) but the price on the current tires couldn't be beat.
Looks great, I was reading up on the Alumilite stuff the other day and was debating on getting into a splitter for the hillclimb project.
yep bring up an old topic. This splitter is very cool looking, does anyone else have it purchase/ made?
