The S10 slave conversion Colin offers, is just a replacement for the OE. Its made of metal, not plastic! Plus I am pretty sure he is using braided lines, which just like brake lines can improve the clutch feel.

 

^^^ Yup the Chevy S10 Slave cylinder is made of Metal and not cheap OEM plastic.

I have one, I like it. That and Whalen Shift Machine makes shifting nice.

 

I also have a Helix short shifter and like it. It was one of my first mods many years ago.

 

Helix short shifter mod for sure!!! Not sure if anything can fix the other part of your question..

 

I noticed that the clutch pedal didn't have to go all the way down to disengage. I didn't like the extra travel so I changed the tiny rubber bumper with one from the hardware store. Now the pedal only goes as far as it has to to get the job done.

Now if your pedal has to go all the way down to work then this won't do anything for you.

 

Maybe Dave or Savvy... Or anyone on the RMW forum can expand more on this but Colin at green performance makes a s10/slave short shifter kit. Idk if this will be any use to you but I think savvy got one, not sure if he put it on yet and I'm not quite sure of its benefits over just a short shifter.

 

Not sure what year your MINI is, but someone in my local club just got one of these and loves the results:

I don't know if I recommend this, but it's an option.

I would give Eric and the boys at Helix a call they will take care of you and answer all your questions.

 

Short of a major mod, like changing a master/slave cylinder to one from a different car for less travel, but MORE FORCE, not sure what would be the fix....
Any idea if you have a aftermarket clutch that is stiffer?

and a short shifter reduces shift lever throw...

Yup just a body panel push plug with some runner washers.

 

Does the Helix or Greene short shifter req the cover to be left off the bottom of the shifter box?

I really don't want to leave this off as the winter time gravel/rock used here gets into everything.

 

The Helix one Yes that's what I have and it fine but I understand your concern.
I have had mine on for year in the salt and gravel during the harsh NE winters and have had no issues.

The Greene one does not require the bottom cover to be off.

The city and county here use red lava cinder to spread on the snow. Works great until the snow melts and the cinder gets crushed down to the consistency of flour. Very abrasive and gets into everything...!
