On the, um, Not Alliance of Motoring site this AM, when I pull up new posts I'm greeted with this banner ad.... I mean.... WTF?
I don't make enough to be a sugar daddy. And unfortunately, girls don't seem to want a "high fructose corn syrup" daddy. :nonod:
Nathan, get some more coffee and then read Paul's post again.....the "Not Alliance of Motoring" site..... (by the way, well done Paul)
Hay, Whats wrong with being a "high fructose corn syrup" daddy??? I work hard to maintain that classification.!!
like the old joke of a man asking a woman of she'd sleep with him for ten million dollars . "of course!" she answers. He goes on to ask her "would you for $500?". She gets offended and asks "what do you think I am?". He answers "we already established that, we are negotiating the price!"
I got a pm on that other site. still waiting for the ads to stop loading so the pm is visible. clicked it at 9 p.m.
And today's installment on the Not Alliance of Motoring site.... almost every page comes up with an ad for AllDataDIY.... never mind that they don't actually offer the service for MINIs....
alldatadiy.com.... see, it worked... I posted a url here and Nathan isn't even getting paid for it.... ALLDATA's diy'er subscription service for online manuals, tech bulletins, etc.... except that BMW/MINI doesn't play with them... since BMW has their own competitive service...
That is cause I keep the advertising relevant to the site when ever possible. Sure, I could of placed huge Google ad banners and blocks all over but I'm not trying to eek out every possible dollar from every square pixel of screen space. This site is for you, the MINI Enthusiast, first and foremost. That Google block there to the left...it made just enough in June to cover the hosting costs and get a $0.49 Coke from my local QT with a few pennies to spare.
yeah I was going to say, for a while now I've seen Chevy Malibu ads on display there.....how does that make any sense??? I think the Established Men ad is more relative to a Mini forum then a Chevy ad?? LOL Steve HAHA just went over "there" to see what banner add there was today and on the sidebar for Google Ads there is a link for the Suzuki SX4 ut: which if you recall in the commercial directly compares itself to the Mini by saying "The Suzuki SX4 is 'Mightier than the Mini' "  talk about not belonging there!! :rolleyes5:
That "Sx4 MINI Cooper" ad is a little different. Suzuki pays Google $$ to target MINI Cooper-specific traffic and sites, so it will show up from time to time mixed in with a batch of other small ads in the "Ads by Google" box on most MINI sites.....which is why you'll see it here too. I sorta like that one though. Face it, we all get some perverted enjoyment from deriding the "Mightier than the MINI" ads on TV, and I figure any member of a site like this one is never going to be lured by it anyway so it's harmless. Of course the folks at Suzuki know someone who's just starting to sniff around for info on MINIs might unknowingly click on an ad titled "Sx4 MINI Cooper" and might be just dumb enough to buy into the propaganda, and that's why they pay Google to run them.
yeah i guess that is different than the banner ads, and i do realize its not exactly "harmful". Its just funny too see SX4 ads on a Mini site, talk about deliberate advertising! sheesh
To me the real issue is that many of the established vendors over on "that other site" are the ones taking it in the chin. The new banners IB allows from Google Adwords are larger and run in a more frequent rotation. You can refresh 20-25 times and not get a banner from one of the vendors that helped grow that site. To me thats a slap in the face to those that were there all along. I may not be a true born and raised Texan but I sure do understand "you dance with them that brung ya".
The thing I'm most hung up on is that you got a Coke for $0.49, it seems even the cans are $0.75 and up these days.
