I saw on the news that an elderly veteran went missing from his nursing home in Great Britain. He turned up a couple days later at Normandy with his comrades. Still dedicated!

Full story: D-Day 70th anniversary: Veteran who disappeared from care home to attend Normandy commemorations on his way home
The Normandy Veterans Association who have been returning to the Normandy beaches each year, asking both press and politicians to stay away from their reunions, have decided to make this year's visit the final one as none of their members are under 90 and they want the visits to end in a dignified manner and not just fizzle out - a braver stance than most of us could manage, I feel.-

So Bernard is back home and didn't have too bad a time. The ferry company offered him free trips in future and suggested he bring his wife next time....-

NOVA ran a program on the research being done on all the ships sunk during the invasion. They are all cataloged now. Just yesterday my wife was going thru a box of her grandparents stuff and found her grandfather's discharge papers. He was a 1c BT (boiler tender) aboard the USS Kentuckian a converted civilian freighter from WW I. It was sunk at Normandy along with several others to form a breakwater.
