Oh, we can absolutely say staged. As we were watching him drift through turns I commented to the wife that: A. He is definitely braking some laws, or B. The road was closed for the shoot Just as I finished my sentence, the stuck behind the truck segment began. Someone needs to work on their editing.
I'm a drifting fan and I had two issues with the "drift" challenge: 1.) That wasn't competition drifting. It was silly crap put together by producers. I'm sure Tanner cringed at the the whole thing as much as I did. 2.) Tanner is a 2-time Forumula-D champion not a D-1 Champion. That's like being the GP2 champ and saying it's equal to winning the F-1 driving championship. Rutledge was worse than the other guy with the "Big Star - Little Car" interview. I hope he never does that again. Rutledge wasn't doing most of the driving in the Aston Martins. It was a "stunt" driver if you really want to call it that. An interesting question is why they didn't test the Evo X MR. It is a much better handling car than the plain Evo X (not that the Evo X is a slouch). It was awesome seeing the blind guy do that. Funny to see them at Willow Springs too (kinda a home track for me too.) The whole episode gets a 7/10. I laughed and enjoyed the segments for the most part. Staged or not. Hell TGUK stages a bunch of crap too. I'll be watching again next week.
Somebody please tell Tanner he doesn't have to drive in every car. The show will never survive if they keep making little ads for the cars. They need to be more honest and unbias about the cars.
I'm a car guy so I will continue to watch but....I think the show sucks big time. From the beginning, they are asking you to take what these guys say to mean something. There is no character development. Also, in the episode with the Lambos, the idiot says, "I wish you could be in here with me to feel my heart beating." I'm sure all episodes for season 1 are filmed but I hope they start the fixes for the possible 2nd season so there will be a 2nd season. P.S.-I bet there is a relatively large budget so I don't know why they couldn't have a dedicated test track.
I don't know, the Guide Dog peeing on stage was funny. Poor guy couldn't hold it anymore, kind of summed things up though.
Second one was marginally better, though I just can't get into that Chubby Tony Danza looking dude. They really lack a feel free chemistry, but maybe that will evolve.
The show was okay. Characters have no chemistry or pizazz, maybe that will come later. I loved the EVO, what a car.....
Anyone car to comment on Paul Tracy being the Stig? He was Tanner's counterpoint on the SPEED Extoic car show, he can handle a car pretty well and he's not currently booked...
I think the problem is that they've tried to copy the British version too much without being unique in its own way. Its like hearing a really bad cover song, what's the point, might as well listen to the original. The show should try to be a lot different otherwise there's no point. I agree, there's no chemistry with the hosts at all
Does anybody have a problem with watching episode #2 on History.com? Its all pixlated. The commercial is not and I have no bandwidth issues or problems streamin other programs.
Paul Tracy as the Stig? Well, I guess that would be OK since there wouldn't be anyone else on the track for him to wreck!
....and no one would have to endure his limited four letter word vocabulary. I mean WTBEEP your on TV for BEEPING sakes.....
Who else thought Episode 3 was the worst thus far :frown5: ? Why even show the Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca when they aren't going to let The Stig drive it around the test track? And why don't they actually get a real star to drive in the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" segment- Buzz Aldrin is acceptable, but how the heck did they choose the other two people?
I thought ep3 was an improvement. I actually enjoyed it much more than the previous two. The bootlegging challenges had a US twist on the UK bit and the caddy casing that landing was pretty epic. Even if they are bad jokes aimed at Mel Gibson, they are starting to try to develop a bit of personality for the US version. And there have been plenty of "starts" below the A list hit the track on the UK version. I'd rather hear a guest who cares about cars, even if it is a beetle, than some lack of personality who's agent just got them on the show for pub.
Episode 3 The good: The hosts are starting to develop better, the banter between them during the challenge was less contrived. The challenge was pretty good too, very American in it the way it was done. The bad: Star in Inexpensive Car was crap. The interview was OK but the coverage of the lap was horrid. That track needs work too, they need to trim the grass. The Mustang coverage. WTF, why bother if the car is not going to be driven. It still bugs me that to make room for so many commercials the show is limited in length. The UK version has no commercials making it an hour long, with the 18-20 min the US version has to remove it cheats the show from being all it could be. HD could brake the mold here and plop a block of commercials in the center of the show instead of breaking it up the way they do.
