Yeah, the engine in your car is an interference engine, so if the timing chain actually "failed" while driving, you may have done some serious damage to your valves. A timing chain "failure" can allow the pistons to hit the valves, which is a very bad thing.
I know we were top dead center when we installed the new kit, but that doesn't mean it is 100% correct on timing...agree a compression test is in order...
I just spent two days this weekend trying to start my bike. My friend keeps saying are you sure the timing is right. I would say yes I know I did it right. Sunday I gave in and checked the timing..........I was almost 180deg out........Dam......well it started. You know crow sure taste good.
also the new coil was bad I had to put the 40 year old one back on to get spark. Recheck everything. My right leg and foot is very sore from two days of kicking that bike.
I know that feeling - I used to ride a CR500... needless to say if it hadn’t been started in awhile my leg would almost die kicking it over and over and over the first time..
Going back under the hood...two questions. 1. What position should the variable tensioner be in? And are there any differences in top dead center with this motor?
