An F56 JCW will surely be a fun drive but if you have fond memories of your R53, it may take awhile to get the same feel from the F.

I've been fortunate to have driven EVERY model MINI has sold in the US - even the crazy expensive GoodWood and the Black Knight (yes, these were just extra options but still cool) and the F model just has a softer feel all around.

The engine is rev-happy and the trans is actually quite smooth, but the power delivery and overall response is somewhat bland. Once you get a lot of driving time, you will be able to maximise its fun factor, but it will take a little while. The R53 (more if you had the JCW or a GP - my ultimate MINI) was instant. It was a rattle box with harsh suspension, but when utilize as intended, it was magic.
