In addition to that, the set screws are captured by the knob itself, so even if they do loosen, they won't fall out while the knob is physically threaded onto the adapter.

Just got my Slammer the other day and the difference it makes is unbelievable. Shifting is much smoother with the extra weight. I got the plain stainless and am in the process of filling the lines, numbers, and logo with enamel paint to go with my Mini (why are there no accessories that go with BRG?). I'll add pics when done. The downside is the cost. If it were just the price listed there would be no issue but I'm from Canada and our dollar isn't doing so well against the greenback and getting dinged for duty and tax at the border hurt a lot!

BTW great write-up. It sure helped me make up my mind.

I'm fancying the Topologi with its Delrin sheath. Not quite as heavy as the others
at 475 g, but will be more comfortable in the hand at extreme temperatures compared
    to bare metal.

Ah yes pic's help! Yeah, I'm out of easy suggestions, and seeing it there really isn't any room.
I would probably just keep it the way it is... One plus side of a metal knob in cold weather, lick your hand... You'll find out! :D

Would go nicely with one of my short shifts.

Haha, metal shift knob, plastic shift knob, or leather covered shift knob, they all seem to hurt about the same after the 120 degree mark. [emoji12]

I've been pleasantly surprised with how well my Raceseng knob has resisted the heat with the powdercoated finish in the summer heat.

Raw finishes may not fare as well, though.

There's an adjustment nut in the handle assembly, where the cables attach. I've had to tweak mine a few times over the years as things elongate.

Tighten up the brake cable and it holds the car firmly in the driveway with 4 clicks now. [emoji106]
Took a pic with the new shift boot installed and it fits the profile of the Ashiko knob much better than the stock boot.

The knob definitely gets hot, but not so hot that I can't shift when first starting off. By a couple miles, it's cooled off a considerable amount, or maybe I've just gotten used to it.

Well, the inevitable finally happened to me. Set screws for the adapter came loose. Now I can't get the fracking knob off. Just spins on the stalk. Word of advice for all who have one... for the first gens, anyway.... MAKE SURE TO KEEP THE ADAPTER TIGHT ON THE STALK. Periodically tighten those little bastards.

Luckily, I've been sitting on a stalk assembly for months (because of the slop in the gate). I guess I get to install that sooner rather than later now.

Been there done that. I think my initial attempt of lifting and turning (trying to get the set screws to bite into the lip) may have backed one or more of them out into the knob threads. I took the can opener of my Leatherman and jammed it into the adapter material, to no avail. At this point, I'll deal till tomorrow after work. Just going to take all my tools and the replacement stalk with me, and hit the auto craft center before going home.

If there was enough thread engagement I would have. I think the super hot and humid weather earlier this week may have had a role in this little set back. But whatever... I already have an email out to Raceseng and have some ideas to eliminate this from happening again. If he's willing to invest a little into this one little niche part of his market.

Going to throw it up on the lift & drop the exhaust so I can just replace the whole shifter stalk. I'll deal with getting the slammer off at some other time. Kinda have bigger things to worry about the next 5 days or so, you know!?

Glad to see my original blueprint for the R53 shifter stalk made the write-up!

Great write up. Very impressive work, I especially like the Ashiko but I have become attached to my Whalen, and so has GIR. If these had been around a year a so ago there is a good chance GIR would be sporting a Red Ashiko. Powder coating is an intresting idea though.
