Hey, never said you had to get rid of it - just letting fellow MINI owners know there's another quality option out there.

    Thanks!

Also, agreed. I've been following the MINI communities for years, because I always wanted one when they first came out. It seems that things have died off a bit amongst the online communities, which is a shame.

Always nice to see new vendors.

The powdercoating option is great - cuts down on the heat a little, and adds some durability to the finish, not to mention some flavor.

I really wish the GP had orange accents, because the mirror orange finish is gorgeous.

With the Helix deal, I have to now decide between the Ashiko or Slammer shift knob without actually feeling the knob in my hand. Since the stock knob is pretty much a round sphere I would lean towards the Slammer knob because I am used to that shape but I see that Helix had first offered the Ashiko, with its flatter sides so that made me think they liked the feel of the Ashiko better. I know Zillon picked the Slammer after feeling both styles. Has anyone else felt these two knobs and have an opinion on which feels better?

I may have to get a Topologi for the winter months. Or just a pair of gloves, I suppose.

That'd be my trick. Unless Jarrett @ Raceseng uses the same threaded mounting fixture to do all his gate engraving... you'd need to adjust the adapter each time to swap knobs. Unless, you get the slamologi knob without the visible engraving.

I had asked this question - you will need to adjust the knob each time.

Or just get an unengraved one, but where's the fun in that?

Don't they screw onto the adapter for the shift lever? Would a jamb nut be a possibility?

could be. But I think they use a goofy thread for the knob to screw onto. Plus, if you scroll up in the thread a bit... you'll see that for our applications, not that much of an option given the adapter vanishes inside the knob.

    See what I mean...

How about a high tension spring stuffed in the receptacle on the bottom of the knob... Screw it down, the spring will compress and cause enough tension for the knob not to spin, just center the lettering and leave it?

You'd be better off with a custom made washer... but it's not that hard to adjust the adapter. There really isn't room for a spring.

They pair fantastically with a short shifter.

Why cant they just make a large round ball with the right shift pattern engraved on the top? I love the look of the white ball in the Rat, but it is light weight plastic. :(

FWIW, the slammer feels better than a pure ball shifter, at least to me.

The elongated shape also helps hide the adapter hardware, too.

Agreed, though - a ball shifter does look fantastic.

FWIW... you might want to check your parking brake cable(s). Mine only takes three clicks to hold the car. Unless you live on a hill with a slope of Pike's Peak... your handle shouldn't be cranked that hard.

I'm thinking that a freezing cold shift knob just isn't the same kind of unpleasantness as a scorching hot shift knob is. Well, unless you lick your freezing cold shift knob and your tongue sticks to it.

Thanks, I'll have to check into that. The handle on my other vehicle comes up about that high after adjustment so I figured it was normal.

Excellent write up. Stumbled on these after talking to the guys at the Helix tent during MOTD, it's going to take me forever to narrow down what I'd like.
