OK, I'll pencil you in for 10am as a placeholder, plenty of time to change though.

I think the 2nd gen tune is for CooperS's only...not for the factory JCW. Is that right?
-
No, that is not correct. A JCW 1st or 2nd gen car can also be tuned. From what I have read the 2nd gen JCW have some of the biggest gains from an RMW tune.
So, if you are interested, it is good for you that he does not charge by the hp/tq gain. -
As someone who just organised an RMW tune here and from the results I saw first hand, It really doesn't matter which Mini you have, you'll be very happy!!!
Yes this is a blatant endorsement. -

rough estimate of total?
ThAnks for the welcome.. How much would i looking at spending and how large is the deposit?
How much dynoing does one typically need to complete tuning... Or am i understanding this relationship incorrectly?
I'll be coming from Dallas and I'm not completely aware of the process of tuning.
Thanks -

Oh ya and... friday night or saturday morning sometime is probably best time for me. I can schedule arrival according to the time slot.
-
When I set these up on average it took an hour from the time the car was pulled in till it went back out. A very very few were as low as 1/2 hour and the top end is what your wallet can bleed. The tune cost is fixed, the variable is the dyno time. To be safe I'd budget for 1.5 hours of dyno time, most likely you will come back with change.
The important thing is to be sure the car is in good shape. Nothing like paying for dyno time to diagnose issue. Talk about wallet draining...
I'm sure mini_racer will post a checklist soon. -
Thanks Nathan, yes I will post a checklist and 1.5hrs is exactly what I am scheduling per vehicle. Since we can bill on 15 min increments, we only have to pay for the actual time on the dyno. Oh, and I will need a deposit to lock-in your slot, but not just yet.
And here is a little background info on the tuning process.
I will post some details later of some of what is tweaked inside the ECU. In a nutshell though, there are many parameters and maps/tables that can be changed. The tuner will get a baseline reading on your car including the dyno and the ECU. Then he makes his changes and uploads to your ECU and keeps iterating until your ECU/car is tuned for maximum performance.
A custom tune like this really optimizes what you already have and it can make a huge difference. Most people report better performance throughout the rpm range and many even get better fuel economy as well. While peak performance values are increased, and sometimes very significantly, to me the real value is in the everyday drivability and performance increase at lower rpms. Most of us typically do not hit the redline very often, if ever, and that is where the peak numbers are, at least for HP.
It is impossible to know exactly how much you will gain since every car is different, even with the same parts. BTW, this delta from car to car, is exactly why a custom tune is so valuable. These differences as well as difference in useage models, climates, available fuel, engine condition, etc are why our cars come from the factory essentially de-tuned, they must be safe for basically any operating conditions. Anyway, hopefully Jan will chime in with some data, but from what I have read a good guess would be a HP/TQ gain of ~12/12 from the factory tune. It could be a little less, and it could be much much more. It is probably better to take a look at some dyno plots to seem the real value, I think one of the guys from last year posted his plots. Again, I am not qualified to give you numbers, Jan is the guy that needs to say something here. -

Please sign me up for Saturday...morning is the best for me.
-
OK, I added the pre-tune checklist to the OP. I will add the schedule to the OP as we get closer.
Also, Wadodude and Greylens I have you penciled in.
At this point we are approaching critical mass, and about halfway full. -
re RMW tune
per our conversation at H2R, would like to sign up for Sat tune but will only bring the 04 JCW The other mini owner in our house thinks her 06 MCS is fast enough.
who takes the deposit? didn't see anything on the Classic Jag site.ut:
-
Ok sure, I will pencil you in for a Saturday slot.
There is nothing on the Jag site about this event, they are simply a great shop with a dyno in good condition with plenty of awesome Jags to view. -
Ok, I just added the sign-up list to the OP since we just have 3 open slots left. We will have room for at least one alternate for each day in case we are running ahead of schedule.
PM me for deposits to lock-in your slot. -

Hmm... Is it possible that I can get the 4pm slot on Saturday as opposed to the Friday slot, (because I don't think I will be in Austin by then on Friday)?
I can't leave Dallas until like 230pm on Friday so there is no way I can make 4 in the mini...tempting though it sounds.
Thanks -
Sign me up for 1:00 on Friday... 5 Hour Drive to Austin....
-
Edit: Ok, you are penciled in for 5:30pm on Saturday.
We can thank RonsMinnie for being flexible on his slot.
