Also, Jan wanted me to inform that he has the Alta Access Port available for 2nd gen cars. I believe this is a Cobb Tuning product and they have an agreement with Alta, RMW, and maybe a few more for distribution. I am not really sure of the details, we can ask Jan at the tune. Anyway, you can check it out here: Alta Performance - ALTA AccessPORT
I believe you just need to tell Jan to leave it a tad to rich to retain the pop/burble. To get the most though get rid of the resonator.
I was actually looking to quiet some of it down. i like the pop and burble but the loud cracks are often too tin-eee. i removed the center resonator off my jcw, love the sound mostly, but would be better without the tin sound.
That's why I am getting a custom 2.5 inch exhaust installed before the tune :cornut:. I like the sound my stock exhaust with the resonator and 2nd cat deleted makes, but sometimes it is a little too raspy/tinny and I also want it to be louder sometimes.
2.5" is a good size for likely up to 300whp, I have the stock JCW 2.25" catback on my car and Jan sez it is limiting flow and only good for up to ~210whp. In general the larger the diameter the deeper the tone, but if you go too large for your engine output then you can start to actually lose TQ at lower rpm. Anyway, looking forward to seeing your 2.5" exhaust at the tune.
Also, as we are getting close I want to remind everyone to make sure they have a car that is ready for the tune. Take care of ALL routine maintenance, and focus on those items listed in the OP. Not a bad idea to do the Seafoam treatment. The cleaner your fuel system the better.
seafoam treatment I did the seafoam treatment today to the PCV, and I plan to do the oil change pretty soon, but before that should I put the seafoam to crankcase and gas tank? I know it will thin out oil, but I plan on the oil change anyways. And I got Castrol Syntrec 5w30 NOT the Royal Purple...(saved $20) is that okay? Also the autozone did not have the drain plug seal... dealership supply only?? :confused5: Do I need any special kit or tools to remove the oil filter? Also planning on doing the k&n air filter cleaning tomorrow... am I forgetting any other maintenance? coolant flush and brake fluid flush isn't necessary before tune right?
BMW recommends a brake fluid flush every 2 years for street use, and I think every 4yrs for the engine coolant. For the tune, make sure the coolant is at the proper level in the overflow cannister.
return trip After the tune is complete, is it recommended or wise to rest the engine/SC before starting on the 4 hour drive back to Dallas? How much stress is put on the car from all that dynoing?? Nothing harmful I hope.. :frown2: I am thinking about arriving on Friday in the afternoon in order to: 1. possibly install bigger injectors 2. install new spark plugs 3. check the belt condition/replace belt if necessary 4. quickly run through the pretune checklist again I am hoping that I will get some help with tools and install note: my 04 R53 has 30k miles
There is no need to rest the engine after the tune. On the hwy, your engine is cool and happy @ 194F, if you want to stress it, let it sit at idle and watch the coolant temps sit in the 220-230F range. Sure, come by on Friday afternoon there will be tools and know-how available to help you.
arrival time.. actually I won't be coming in on Friday afternoon anymore.. I will arrive on Saturday morning sometime..
Classic Jaguar 9916 Hwy 290W Austin Texas 78736 USA Yep, that's the place. The shop is on the North side of 290W. The dyno bay faces 290w and just be on the lookout for some MINIs.
Sure, I will post some pics and video of the fun. We will almost have a mini DIY event with the tune given the amount of spark plug, belt, and injector changes that will be happening.
