It's a real blessing that no one was seriously injured. -
Holy s...
Here's the bottom of a Mini Challenge car, for those of you building one at home.
And this, this is just frightening. It looks like a monster movie!

Holy hell! I'm amazed there weren't more injuries...at least... I think it's a dead cert those in/near the path won't soon forget the sight of that car endo-ing straight at them.

Wow!!! :eek6: I'm VERY glad more weren't hurt. The fact the driver walked away is (another) testament to how tough these little buggers are. I'm super happy about that!

I would NOT compare a fully prepped RACE MINI to a street driven MINI. NOT in any way the same thing.
Sorry but this needs to be said for those that do not understand the difference!
There Is no interior, no stock seats, factory seat belts, air bag systems or misalliance small parts that could possibly fly around in an impact or roll over at the speeds attained in racing.. A race car has at least a roll cage or bar, racing Harness and the driver wears safety approved helmet and driving suit and many things safety wired. These are the five biggest reasons why the driver did not sustain major injury.
When speaking of safety there is no comparison! -

Two Spectators Injured in MINI Challenge Crash
While battling for position a MINI Challenge race car (while contesting a race in the Australian series) was bumped and went airborne landing and then sliding on it’s roof. However things got ugly when it dug into the gravel trap and begin cartwheeling end over end into a spectator area. Shockingly only two spectators were injured.

WOW.......
Glad no one was injured and glad to see there was no over-zealous reporting either.
As to the comment of why folks were allowed there....I am sure there is no way anyone could have imagined that this type of accident could have happened. The MINI went a good long way thru the sand trap to even get to the tire barrier and wall. For a car to have gotten that far thru the sand trap is a miracle in itself. I can't see this ever happening again. Just a freak accident. -
What's amazing is how solid these little turds are! Every accident I've seen involving a MINI has ended with a pretty intact car. Of course these Challenge cars have roll cages, but they are going really, really fast.
