Okay, let's start this off by saying I am not a small guy. I may be 5'10" on a good day but I'm almost 250 pounds. I've trained and been trained in both bodybuiding and power lifting. I really enjoy my MINI to it's fullest but....... reaching back for that seatbelt is annoying. :incazzato: I'm certain others feel the same and some of you may have found a DIY fix or work-around... Please share!
Check with Aaron at Outmotroring. He has what you are looking for. An extender that puts the buckle closer to you so you can reach it easier.
Odd...I'm also a big guy with a weight a bit more north than both of you and I have no issues with reaching for the seatbelt.
Aaron replied, they no longer sell that item. It was not effective and there were returns so he doesn't sell it anymore. I will look at other things. @ Nathan, being "short" is what, I think, makes it less than fun. I have the seat up aways to reach the pedals and the seatbelt is waaaaaaayyyy back there. @ Crashton, I may need to put a protien bar there for motivation, thanks!
I have an older BMW 2-door coupe and the seat belt is farther back than the MINI. Try reaching down instead of up, and try moving the little seat belt slider way up so that you get some slack when the belt retracts. The BMW E92 3-series coupe has little arms that slide forward and push the seat belt towards you. It's cool to watch, but looks pretty fragile. @Crashton: I like that idea better.
When you get out, reach in, take the belt and drape it over the seat bolster. It will stay there and be in easy reach when you get back in. Jim
I had a Nissan 300 once that had the automatic shoulder harness than traveled along the upper window when you shut the door. dang thing would knock every ice cream cone I bought out of my hands when I'd shut the door.
Ahh the old mouse belts. Hated those things, still had to manually latch the lap belt so it really did not solve anything since folks would latch the lap belt once and then sit on them. Not very effective in an accident. All in all a NHTSA failure.
I had forgotten about those stupid things. Sometimes it would hit ya in the head if you moved too fast. Like Nathan said, I just sat on the belt. Jim
Another trick with the seat belt, if you do not already know this, is to slide the plastic gizmo all the way over to the buckle when you have it on. then when you release it, the buckle will go all the way to the top of the pillar, out of the way. You can then slide it a bit further (after released) and it will put some slack in the belt, so it will stay on the bolster better. Jim
