No issues at all leaving it off. I have a Helix Short shifter installed for 8 years now and I have never had an issue since is behind the exhaust heat shield.

I cut the cover then made an aluminum box and riveted to the cover. It took a few tries to get the size right. If you want the measurements PM me

No way could I run with out the dust cover in my area.........lava rock cinders are used in the winter and they get EVERYWHERE ! !

Living in FL, I don't have to worry about the extraneous crap spewed on the roads for ice & snow as you northerners do :biggrin5:
Do you notice more heat coming from the shifter area? I actually called Helix to get their take on running without the dust cover, and they said that's the only drawback. But again, being in FL, summer is hotter than hell anyway, so I doubt that a little more heat will really make a difference... -

All wheel drive does not help if you don't know how to drive in the snow to begin with. :ihih::lol:
