Yes, heat might be a concern - although the protection offered in either forward or backward directions is a plus.
Cobalt's newer one might alleviate the heat issue, but Moss says it fits only 2007.

I have a Cobalt skid plate on my R53 & feel it is a good idea because of the cast aluminium sump. They don't bend they break.
On an R56 you have a pressed steel sump & an exhaust that runs under it. The sump will bend not break. I'd be worried about hitting the skid plate on something & pinching the exhaust.
Edit....
That skid plate looks very well made. Wonder how much heat it will hold in on a turbo car?

That is a very well made skidplate. If you find things getting too hot under the bonnet after bolting it on you can always take a hole saw & add some cooling vents.

Of course if you get one, you'll need to do a little paint work in case anyone is peeking under your car..

^ nice job, but I like mine scratched & scared.....

What crashton said, the numerous scrapes and one big gouge (exhaust fell off the car in front of me lol) on mine means it is working
That is neat how it matches the stripes -
It's still in it's original protective wrapper and shipping carton. Make me an offer? -

Oldbrokenwind do you know if yours will fit on a 12' Clubman S Automatic? Might be interested in seeing it.

Bought it from Mini Mania in early 2011 --- part # G2NMA3041. You can go to their website, fill out the info for your car, then check the "will this item fit my car" box. Here's a link ---

HurricaneDave, looking at the other skid plates available, mine probably won't work in a 2012 clubman automatic. Since you're so close, if you want to check it out, send me a PM and I'll respond with an address / directions, etc. I have a good floor jack and a couple stands in my garage. -

Everything I can find says it will not fit on a 12" Cllubby Auto. Thanks anyway oldbrokenwind!

Got the Rennline skidplate in. Changed the acoustics a bit, no negative.
Installing with the front on 6" high ramps was fun, supporting the plate on my chest and belly-breathing. Added a couple rubber washers to prevent scraping the frame.
Gotta get some RaceRamps... -

Interested in how it changed the acoustics?
That Rennline looks very well made.
