LOL - so playing with smilies... like everything so far there are a number of options. (I'm trying to find some animated ones.. Few questions: Does anyone remember the short code for them (i.e. what you typed in rather than click on the smilie? If so I can modify them. Are there any I'm missing (I'm trying to find the "I have nothing to add" one.. not a huge fan of the thumbs up either that I added last night Let me know your thoughts on them, ones you would like or anything else.
There are two animated ones that I think were fairly well used, :yesnod: (smiling and nodding up and down) and :nonod: (frowning, I think, and nodding side to side). There was also a good animated wink and the idea one with the lightbulb above the head.
Any possibility that the system also supports emojis? Would be a quick shortcut, and who doesn’t want to post the poop emoji sometimes?
@Zapski - sorry you lost me a little on that one. What is the difference between the two? Also just learned something cool.. I had highlighted Emojis to look it up and when I did the "reply" popped up.. I clicked it and it quoted just that.. pretty cool. If by emojis you mean putting in short keys, you can do that.. example...."colon double vertical dots with ) following"... =
I'll see if I can find those.. Do you remember the codes.. was it colon"word"colon or bracket"word"bracket"
On mobile platforms there's a special keyboard for sending emojis in text messages. It works on Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms as well. Here's the page with the standards https://unicode.org/emoji/charts-5.0/index.html Rather than typing a code, the characters are readily available, even on computers.
@Zapski - Technically you don’t need to type in the code. See pic below. Now to your point, it would be great if you could do it directly from your keyboard without having to do that. I will have to look into that to see if its possible. Essentially this works the same way.. it has to point to an image file and those image files wouldn’t be on the server so they would have to be somewhere generally exposed (I think).. will look into.
Ok - did some quick research. Emoji is not supported on XF 1.5 (which is what we are on). It is supported on 2.0 which was just released. It was a MAJOR change so I chose to go with 1.5 (stable) while 2.0 gets baked. That said, I did learn some interesting things in my quick research: 1) While Emoji is supported, its database and OS specific. Therefore, you could potentially have Emoji’s that people chose show up on mobile but not on PC (I saw a thread where someone was trying to trouble shoot this).. so it would potentially have some issues. I’ll look into it more. Ultimately, I could add a ton of smilies to the site. The only real challenge is performance. Each “Smilie” is a DB query. Not a big deal, but would have a nominal impact. I’ll look into this more. Keep the suggestions coming.
Lol - that won’t be nearly as bad.. same platform and clear migration path.. We did (are doing) the hard work in this one.
