+1 on waiting and all-seasons. I'm targeting Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, for the swap.

I must say it's immensely satisfying to this upper-midwesterner under blue skies to observe from a safe distance other folks having to deal with early season snows. :devil:

I'm sure that will come back to haunt me...

 

I've driven in the snow with summer tires before, and it sure isn't fun. I've been taking it easy here the last week with the cooler temps in the morning. That said, I will probably wait until there is snow in the forecast before actually swapping over. I'm still bummed that I never got around to putting in my short shifter, prob won't get that done now until spring.

 

My friend in Milton uses the Nokian Hakkapeliitta's and swears by them. All my research supports her opinion. Have you used them before?

I am considering the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R's in size 185/65R15 92R XL B mounted on some Justa hOle's.

I had them on my front wheel drive civic hatch and they outperformed my 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Getting them for my MINI next week.

 

What tires are those? can y0u put up some more detail on them please.

 

I usualy take off my summers right after my last summer HPDE in late August/early September and put on the all seasons til late November/early december when the snows go on til early Spring and all season time again.

 

If you use the Hakkapeliitta's do you have to know how to pronounce the name?

 

Hakka's are the best winter tire I have ever driven on. Unfortunately they are also the most expensive.

After I wore the Hakka's out on both of our cars I switched to another brand. Very good, but not Hakka's. They work well & I saved some donut money. :donut1:

I gotta run 'em at least a couple of weeks before the winter tires go on.

looking to swap out the Dunlop RFs with some all-weather Michelins this week, maybe sooner. Did an overnight to Akron this weekend and on the way back noticed a bulge on the front drivers side tire... never liked the RF's anyway...

I was thinking the same thing? you people (that's right I said you people) must have 8 tires in your garages all the time. I will admit I do have another set for my mini but they are for autocrossing and they are not mounted, plus they are really small compared to your wheels.

 

Dedicated winter snow tires

Pronounce it, heck I can't even spell it without a link to copy and paste from.
But I recognize the name when I see it and recommendations from trusted folks that live through some nasty Winters every year say they are very good at what they do even the studless versions.
I figure I can get about six winters out of a set on dedicated wheels. What do you folks think about size?

Mounted on MINI 15 inch hollies, I rather use some steel wheels though, any recommendations?

 

I only have 12 extra sets of wheels & tires in my garage. 2 sets each for 3 cars, summer shoes & winter shoes. I used to have many more, but I'm cutting back.:wink:

Do you drive your Mini in the slush & salt?. Thought you had another car for such duty.

 

Narrow is better, for me 175/65R15 or 185/60/15 depending on availability.
