My family had to cut the Christmas Vacation short due to the Snow Storm in the Mid Atlantic States...left on the Afternoon on Christmas Day from SC and heading back to NJ...12 Hours.

If you are considering a Countryman...Get the the ALL4!...the R60 ride was stable, comfortable, always felt that all the tires was planted on the road, never felt any type of sliding...especially during the NC/VA Snow Storm...cruising speed was around 65MPH with the some 75MPH to pass.

I crept up on a Clubman S and gave a wave and a thumbs up...they waved back and then realized it was a Countryman that passed them...Every gas stop, I always got comments on...BMW did a great job on the MINI, Nice Color w/Stripes, Didn't know MINI come so MAXI?

MINI did a great job on the Countryman, so far.

Great news! We can't wait until ours arrives and based on the snow so far this winter in Ohio it will be put to good use.

I took a Countryman for a test drive a few months back and was really surprised that mini was still able to capture the "Mini feel" with the Countryman. My wife doesn't like to looks of it now that she has been around Donkey. She thinks the larger version just doesn't look right. :(

Compared to the cuteness of the 1st Gen & 2nd Gen...R60 looks like it's not to be messed with (Wolverine). It's aggressive looking and still wants to come out and play...the front looks like the Imperial Guards from the movie "300"

The R60 is just "NICE" and should be considered as a 1st Car by small families.

The R52 is the 2nd Car and there is something special about the 1st Gen car...you have to have one to know.

Nice to hear that the CountryMan handled the conditions in fine fashion.
Doing 65/75 indicates directional stability was there. Was there any hint of squirliness at speed?

AWD helps tremendously to get going & maintain that straight ahead stability. For braking & cornering it is all about the tires the vehicle is wearing. At least that is my take, we've had awd cars in our stable since '98. Given a choice of vehicles I'd take a fwd on 4 snow tires over an awd with all seasons.

ALL4 was it...no consideration for the S...since I already had the R52 MCS and just traded in the R56 MCS.

I did not test drive the R60 until after I received it.

Performance will have to wait...I'm modding the R52 right now.

If I had to do performance and not worry about my warranty...CAI and Exhaust (2.5" piping with Magnaflow mufflers w/ bigger tips)...ALTA AccessPort...HMMM!

Some dealers are more mod friendly than others. My local dealer has a pretty good attitude about mods. I think it would be wise to ask the service guys some questions before going on a modding frenzy. :)

So true. I have run Hankook Ice Bears on my R53 for the last 6 winters and would not be without dedicated winter tires. Being a veteran of 3 ArcticMINI runs, I believe AWD/4WD is so-o-o-o over rated.

Afraid I can not agree there. 4WD or AWD is a must in muddy fields and pastures. You are not going anywhere with out it. :frown2:

I was referring to road driving not mud bogging in the back 40. ;) One thing I do know, when you get a 4wd stuck you are really stuck. :yesnod:
