When I open certain threads, it's like it keeps trying to open it again and again, then I get a "database error" message....

Doesn't do it on every thread tho....the Fiat 500 thread does it for example.
    Anyone else getting this?

Only does it within a thread, not on the home page or forums list page or even the new posts page.

Yeah, I've been getting error messages that the max_user_connections to the MySQL database has been maxed out. I've already upped the number of persistent connections allowed and that has not solved the issue. I have a ticket in with the hosting company to try and determine what is causing these all of the sudden.

My thoughts are that there is a rogue process hitting the database and not letting go as soon as possible. What I find odd is there have been no changes that would effect database calls added to the site since the reviews product was added.

Thanks for the heads up on these as the error only tells me when and what process was effected, not a lot to go on with this error message.

Yep, same here and yesterday also, but i thought it was the computor I was on, as it was not mine. Like a stuck key or something.

I'm going to shut the site down for about 10 minutes at most starting at 10AM CT to reindex, repair and optimize the database. See if that helps.

Database tables have been repaired, optimized and reindexed.

Hopefully that will fix the issue.

Here's another symptom, and it's still here after your reset:

The browser "back" button seems to be disabled on this site only. Firefox 3.6.10

Looks to be a FireFox only issue. Have tested in FF 3.6.11 and see the issue. Have also tested in Opera 11, Chrome 8.0.552.224 and the back button works fine in all cases.

BTW, M/A is a lot faster in Chrome than in FF.

Back Button works fine in IE too....

Seemed to mess up for me when I hit the reply button, was still doing it a few minutes ago, but not in this reply.

Appreciate your quick attention Nathan, what a difference from that other NAMeless site, where they respond sometimes within a year or two....

The db issues are intermittent making it very hard to troubleshoot. After repairing, optimizing and reindexing the tables the issue persists.

I had made a small change where I added a bit of Java script to the footer. In theory that should not be an issue as it calls another site. To be safe I've pulled that code and will keep monitoring the site to see if it fixes the issue.

No problems for me. It seems very appropriate that a Fiat thread broke something...

For what it's worth, the "back" button is working now.

Well that bit of Java script is now in the trash heap. I've informed the developers of the problems it caused as well.

In case you were curious it was a for a banner that was displayed in the footer where an advertiser could purchase the slot on a day to day basis. I know the developers and was helping them test the product. Oh well, so much for that product.

Sorry to have caused issues on the site.

    Yeah Nathan.......
I saw that today and thought to myself.......
Has that been there all this time and I just didn't notice?

    Thinking I'm developing "Olds-hymers" disease.:D

I must not get that far down the page, I never saw it! :D

Anyway, looks like you found the culprit! Good job!

When something weird crops up on a site I visit regularly, the first thing I think is that I must have gotten a bug somewhere, and since I'm on my work computer I worry that the PTB will take Interwebs access away, then I'll have to find something productive (for them) to do! :D

You're ahead of me MM, cause I did not even notice it.

Nathan, when I tried to log on during the shut down, I liked the message saying the site was down for repairs. Nice touch.
