It wasn't always that way. We typically had a first freeze around Halloween -- before the global warming hoax. Thanks to that well orchestrated hoax, we might get our first freeze before christmas.

If I am still alive in 20 years, I'll be harvesting peppers in January.

Once I get home, after a month on the road, I'm going to do some serious cooking.

But, I had to share this.

I am in Oceanside, CA on business, and I popped into this place called Angelos Burgers for breakfast, and order one of their "World Famous" Breakfast Burritos. A few minutes later, a guy hands me my burrito in a bag -- and it weighed about five pounds. :eek6:

It was really good, and I had it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Seriously, you could feed a family with this burrito. I'm glad my hotel room had a refrigerator and a microwave oven. I ate all day for six bucks.

I watched the cook make it, and the tortilla was the size of a man-hole cover. I looked at their website when I got back to the hotel, and this thing has three eggs, sausage, cheese, hash browns and some kind of salsa.

Have to ask, what were you shooting in Oceanside? I was there in September for a few hours, missed the Burrito place. ;)

I was shooting a "garage find" Ferrari 330GTC. It is in kind of rough shape, but should still fetch $300K-plus.

The weather is going to go bad on Sunday -- high of 72 Saturday, and high of 29 Sunday. So, Saturday it is shopping day. Sunday, I'm thinking a cast-iron dutch oven of slow simmered goodness. Not sure what kind of goodness, yet.

    Suggestions welcome.

Pot roast and vegetables are always a good comfort food on a cold day!

Today, the high temperature in Colorado Springs was 63 and the low was 6 degrees. Tomorrow it is suppose to get up to 9 degrees!

If we are lucky it will get to 9. :( Not sure what I would put in the pot for a cold day, but we do have a nice pot of chili sitting in the garage fridge from a day or so ago. It does get better with age, the peppers work well in the cold.

I had some last night after the Schomp/MINI5280 Toy run to Craig and Party. Hit the spot.

Yep, that is heading our way.

I have bad memories of pot roast from childhood. It was dry and tough. My mom was not the best cook. I really want to do one, but I want to do it right.

I found a recipe online for Pork and Poblano stew that would use the last of my home grown poblanos, an some pork shoulder, which loves to be cooked low and slow. It is from a reputable website. There are a couple of mods I want to make, but the core recipe is solid.

    I'll keep you posted.

A pot of chili was on the short list, and it is better the day after you make it.

Stuffed bell peppers done in the crock pot. Should be a tasty meal about 6ish.

    Teaser Alert!!!

Okay, my pork and poblano stew has about an hour left to simmer. I just tasted the broth for seasoning, and it was amazing. I'll take a picture, and do a post-cook review later.

For now, here is the recipe. I highly recommend it. I left out the cilantro, and the optional pumpkin seeds. I am not a fan of cilantro, and the pumpkin seeds sounded a bit hipster-ish to me. I also left out the frozen corn, simply because I forgot to buy any. I don't think the corn would make a big difference, but if I had it, I would have used it. I often add frozen corn and peas to my soups and stews.

I also used red potatoes instead of sweet potatoes, because I felt like it. Recipes are made to be altered, IMO. I am tempted to try this recipe again, using sweet potatoes... or one of you can do it and tell us how it turned out.

Here it is. Wow! It was good. Again, I highly recommend this recipe. Modify it to your individual taste, but the base recipe is excellent.

Very earthy, comfort food flavor. The pork was "melt in your mouth" tender. The poblanos I used were jalapeño hot raw, but mellowed out perfectly in the low and slow cook.

Wow that Stew looks excellent, I do like some peppers. Now the 20oz Rib in Ribeye sounds great about 15 years ago, but nowadays I cannot what or how long I would be clogged up. :)

Dave.0 what were your sides or was it meat and all meat?

Still to cold around these parts, all you folks caught in the nasty snow and cold, stay safe.

As reasonably priced steakhouses go, Texas Roadhouse does cook a good steak. I can cook a better steak at home, or pay fifty-bucks for a better steak at a prime steakhouse, but I have no problem paying the bill at Texas Roadhouse. I never go there here at home, but on the road, they are a pretty reliable place to have a good meal.

Your wife can cook a better steak? I may have to challenge your possession of a man card.

If you even have a grill, you probably have a gas grill, too. :frown2:

Way back at the beginning of this topic Nathan posted a onion soup recipe. It is outstanding and My wife has made it ever since. I don't cook, I only eat, being the male chauvinist pig I am. Anyway she made it yesterday and it is great!

At our house, I cook and my wife picks up and washes my cooking utensils before I'm done with them.
