I got a good deal today on a beautiful USDA Prime ribeye. I cooked it sous vide to a perfect medium rare, and gave it a quick sear. Baked potato on the side. CD
I scored big in the Manager's Special section in the meat department at Kroger. A three pack of choice tenderloins for 13 bucks and change. The regular price on the sticker was 30 bucks! So, tonight I had filet mignon, sous vide and seared to a perfect medium rare. I smothered it in a creamy peppercorn sauce, made with finely chopped onion and garlic sautéed in EVOO and butter, freshly ground peppercorns, beef stock and heavy cream. The red chilis in the photo were stunt chilis. The plate looked too brown. CD
Real gourmet fare for me today. Tomato sandwiches with fresh garden tomatoes for lunch, and pulled pork BBQ sandwiches (eastern NC style) for supper. All enjoyed while planted on my couch with the A/C running hard.
Nice looking waffle. Have you watched the movie In Bruges? If you like really dark comedy, it is a great movie. CD
Shrimp and grits. Yellow corn grits, with cheddar, jalapeños, and Hatch green chilis. Shrimp blackened with Zataran's seasoning and butter with sweet peppers and green onions. Leftover grits will be used for polenta.
Bruges was a wonderful city to visit. We stayed in the BnB on the canal where the dog sits in the window (it was in the movie and was a point in all of the tours when we went some 6+ years ago).
Last was September 26, did everyone go on a diet and figure this tread was a goner? Anyone have a great Turkey, pie or alternate feast for the past holiday? Missing some good pictures to help me plan some good eating. Sigh!
Not a lot of cooking lately. Lots of traveling. I cook whenever I am home. I did do some Buffalo Wings a few weeks ago. And a Chili Cheese Spud. Some Cuban Black Beans with Smoked Sausage. A sous vide and seared Poke Chop. And some Candied Pecans (equal parts butter, brown sugar and maple syrup -- coat and bake). CD
