Our favorite Pho place here in Charlotte closed over the summer, but we found a place nearby that packages Pho for delivery! The broth/meat comes in a plastic tub and you get a paper take-out box with the noodles, basil, cilantro, bean sprout, lime and hoisin/chili sauces on the side. You assemble yourself at home (with a bit of extra heat for the broth courtesy of the microwave). This kit and a jar of chili crisp that I keep on hand made for a spectacular lunch!
New Year's Day. Pork and sauerkraut. Pork shoulder braised in hard English cider and chicken stock, on a bed of rough chopped onions. Sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Gravy made from the braising liquid. CD
Had hankering for more noodles, so Spicy Beef Ramen with carrots, ginger, green onion, crispy fried garlic, chili oil, toasted sesame, soft boiled eggs and cilantro.
Did anyone make or bake anything special this weekend, we cleaned up leftovers, so I have nothing! Don
Yes! Now that you ask!! Frozen bean burritos with melted cheese on top. I slaved over these puppy for a minute and half. Almost to tired to eat them.
"Bacon Onion Gravy" are 3 words that might haunt my dreams until I try to make it... Edit: Yep. YouTube to the rescue. It's exactly what you would figure... bacon, onion, fat, caramelize, season, flour, cook, stock, cook, yum.
Looks rather tummy warming, but I am not sure something a 74 year old should eat every day. . Bad movements, aside.
I pulled off the bangers n mash w/ bacon-onion gravy and peas last night. A bit too much flour in the gravy (due to my relative inexperience making gravy), but it was a surprisingly good effort for seat-of-the-pants cooking. I was able to thin it out with more stock but looked more like a cream gravy than a proper brown gravy in the end. Thanks for the inspiration.
