I think the spinning of the turbo adds a little muffle factor that tends to remove some of the "Bark"....
^^^ I agree most turbo cars are somewhat quieter than their N/A brethren. Noise does not equal power. Oh would it be easy if it did.
JCW with Resonator delete I have a 2008 Factory Built JCW and have just removed my resonator. Since I purchased the car 2 months ago, I felt that it was a bit subdued in noise compared to it's power. I have been driving like a teen ager, so might as well act like one :biggrin5: It now sounds like it should in my opinion. Here is a link to a quick video of the exhaust note. Here is what I had removed. Had the resonator replaced with a piece of pipe (not Stainless Steel but galvanised) Total cost. $50 Au. The second picture is with it just tacked into place. Cheap mod, and worth it in my opinion. Like I said before I am acting like a teen ager again!! Cheers, Ken
Justa to update, I had the resonator removed and a piece of stainless welded in its place. The exhaust was removed from the car, placed in a fixture and fully welded. We also increased the overall length by an inch to move the tips out. They are now even with my GP2 diffusers. The sound is exactly what I wanted, no done and a lot more burble between shifts. Sorry for not updating this thread sooner.
Not sure about the above post, but on mine, the pipe was tacked in place while on the vehicle, then the exhaust was removed and fully welded on a bench to make sure that a good weld was achieved around the pipe. They then used a sniffer to check for exhaust gasses once the exhaust was put in place and the car started. All in all, a good job Ken
The exhaust was removed from the car, placed on a fixture and fully welded....as opposed to the shortcut that some muffler shops take by trying to weld in the void pipe while still on the car. To properly complete this mod and get proper penetration, the pipe needs to be welded fully around its circumference. You can't do that when it remains on the car during the process. Does that answer your question?
Yep...a jig. When you are in metal manufacturing we refer to it as a fixture which is just a fancy name. Sorry for the confusion.
