Does anyone here on the forum know what the speed limiter is set for on the 2003 MINI Cooper S? I know it is 135 mph. on the new Cooper S but didn't know if it was different for the 2003 with the Supercharger.:confused5:

I have never gone fast enough to find the speed limiter. 125 at the end of the Mid-Ohio straight. It is more than that I'm sure.

It is the same on the 2003, 135mph...

Getting to 135 is not easy either, remember a MINI is essentially a brick.

I've seen a GPS indicated 135 only twice. On the back straight of Road Atlanta and on I-10 in New Mexico where the road is straight as a chalk line and it looks like you see from AZ to TX.

If you get a tune you can have it removed. I have done 141 Mph.

After I do the oil change in the Supercharger and get the 15% pulley and belt from WMW I'll drive the 125 miles to get it on a Dyno and a tune.

There is no "speed" limiter, per se. But to keep you from blowing up your engine too easily, there is a fuel cut-off at a certain RPM.

My car is an 05, so it might be different, but I found a rev limiter kick in at 7200 rpm. Redline on my tach is 6800 rpm. Do NOT try to hit it very often, especially if your car is bone stock. I only did it once and the engine still runs fine.

I've hit the rev limiter / fuel cutoff a handful of times, usually on the 1-2 shift, or lack thereof :). 6500'ish rpm, thereabouts.

MINIUSA posts the top speed of a new MCS Hardtop as 141mph, presumably they're allowed to achieve that? I've not had mine in controlled-enough conditions to verify...so far.

I believe the fuel cut off & the speed limiter are two entirely different things.

For what it's worth I hit the rev limit on occasion.:arf: These cars are built to do that. You will not hurt your MINI hitting it now & again.

As far as the speed limiter goes I'd think the drag of the brick shaped MINI would keep me from reaching 135mph. That & not having a local track with a long enough straight.
