Porsche 911's back in the early days had a similar problem with those oil tubes, the end would clog up and stop oiling the cam lobes and rockers on the front most cylinders. I would take a piece of tag wire and poke around in them any time I had the valve covers off to do a valve adjustment.

It could. Part of the set up is to tell the ECU to lock at 10 BTDC. Then disable the injectors or fuel pump to keep it from starting. While someone is cranking it over you check the timing with a timing light if it is not at 10 you adjust the ECU till it is. Then you start the motor and check it running. If it stays at 10your done. Unlock the timing on the ECU. Now using the crank position sensor the ECU knows where the crank is and can adjust the timing on the fly if needed. I don’t completely understand setting the idle but there are a couple adjustments you can make to effect it, also there is a function called idle correction that can adjust timing and fuel to get the idle where you want it for a given temperature. There are several tables you can adjust including coolant temp.

The fiddle factor is very high

Good thing that you have a grasp on what is needed as it sounds like it would be a nightmare for me.

It’s not their fault. All the tow company’s in Memphis are very bad. When the first one didn’t come I called them and the girl was rude and said they did not have the equipment to tow my car, after waiting an hour. Hagerty didn't know they had canceled with out telling anyone. Par for the course.

Well that is interesting. I think it is more likely oil tube or not keeping a good o-ring on the tube than an oil temp problem. The other thing I have wondered is could the damage be happening on start up before the oil reaches the cam. But most think it’s an oil temp problem. No one has any hard data to solve the problem. Lotus has never acknowledged the problem.

This past week I spent trying to get the idle down. With a lot of people jumping in to help but no luck. It was decided I must have a vacuum leak. I checked all the piping but could not find anything. Yesterday morning I decided to take a look at the throttle body. It looked ok. I started the motor and put my hand over the TB and the car did not die! That’s a heck of a vacuum leak! Next I was going to tilt the rear clam and start taking everything apart. I was spraying some carb cleaner in different places when it hit my catch cans the idle went down. I disconnected the hose leading to the intake system and plugged it. The car Idled down to around 900 RPM. At first I thought it was that hose but I found that one of the catch cans drain was left open by the idiot that changed the oil! I closed the drain and all is good.
I feel bad a lot of effort was put into helping me with the idle.

Now I need to get the idle up just a little bit. Then drive the car and run some logs and make fine adjustments till it is right.

I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel……………..or is that a train……….I can’t tell

Don't feel bad Lee. Many of us have done such things. As far as raising the idle, loosen the catch can drain just a wee bit. ;)

Keep your Lotus off the train tracks.
