It's even got little "canards" just above the beltline. So, is that carbon or plastic? I can't see the Carbon weave, so I'm assuming plastic. Also, how do these normally attach? It looks like it's stuck to the window and bolted to the base Cooper spoiler.
Looks to be attached using the OEM mounting points with the downward legs attached to the back glass.
So, it uses the OEM mounting points through the base Cooper spoiler (assuming that's what that is)? Sorry, I've never removed the OEM spoiler, so I'm kind of a noob to this discussion... and I'm brainstorming ideas for items I could make out of Carbon Fiber.
Doesn't look that way. Looks like any OEM spoiler, either base or S, has been removed and the same mounting holes the OEM uses has been re-purposed here. The OEM mounts with 2 studs in the spoiler are bolted through the body. Ahh heck...I'll go pull mine for the umpteenth time and take a pic...
no more so than: coilovers any splitter pulley mods custom tunes etc etc etc Functional for the track... Bling for the street
Under this cover, one per side.... Is this...a stud in the wing and a locking nut to hold in place. If you note where the mounting points are on the spy shot it looks like a there is a recessed area in the portion that is flat against the body to countersink the head of a bolt. Being where they are located this looks like this wing is using the OEM mounting points.
Hmmm... Still confused If I were to remove my R56's spoiler, the area underneath would no longer be flush with the roof, so a spoiler like the one above would have to come with a panel to cover that area, sort of like the CF JCW spoiler does: If it does, then "mystery solved"... otherwise, I'm still confused.
I 'think' the area underneath the stock spoiler is flush but when removed, you would have two ugly holes to cover if the replacment wing did not cover that area. By using the original mounting points, this wing takes care of it.
I would be interested in closer pics of those canards at the belt line. But for some reason I do like that wing... I really need to stop drinking this early in the day....
No... I distinctly remember waking up in bed without my clothes on... that means there was an acceptable break... this is definitely a new one...
I think I'll need to see an R53 and R56 with the factory spoiler removed in order to help myself understand at this point. I'm just not understanding how the center area can be flush (and have a 3rd brake light) if the factory spoiler is removed and not replaced by a piece that comes with the new spoiler shown. :confused5:
