The other day I noticed the JCW badge in the front was not looking too good. Can spirited driving cause paint removal?? Now I need to figure out the best way to restore it to it's former glory. Buying a new one would be the easy out.
I see the eye balls, but it only says on each side. I'll bet they were pictures of an "S" and a "JCW' and there was a PROBLEM with the images. Jim
Slow down, run like a Justa and the paint stays on??? Ahhhh..... No way..... Let them paint chips fly.......
Yeah, and then clip a deer just right and you get rid of all those pesky paint chips and slightly faded bonnet stripes with an insurance covered paint job! Now for the original post: ummmmm, a very tiny paint brush with some enamel paint?
Whether you try to repair it yourself using enamel paint or you buy a new one, it's very important to use high gloss clear enamel to protect it, letting it dry completely between coats. I have one of the "Whiptastic Handling" stickers and after seeing so many of them faded/pitted, I used the clear enamel spray paint trick before I even removed it from the backing paper to stick on the boot window. Here it is, four-and-a-half years later and my Whiptastic Handling sticker looks brand new. The enamel hasn't yellowed at all and the several coats gives it a nice "depth".
The first few paint chips really upset me. Now that I have a million or so I think of them as the patina of a fine old car.
It might be better to remove it and fill in the indent with a thicker coat of red. But orient it level so the paint stays in the recessed area until dry. I'm wondering if a red epoxy paint would be a good candidate? Strange how the black letters remain pristine. Is the first o in Cooper showing some damage also? New OEM emblems are EXPENSIVE.....
I have had to repaint the red on my JCW emblem three times. Simply use a thick enamel and a small brush. Paint the letters and the recessed silouettes carefully but don't worry if you get outside the lines (in fact I try to get outside of them to insure they are filled with paint). Wait until the paint sets up (not dry hard but soft hard) and use a flat toothpick to rub the paint off the emblem where you painted outside the lines. It may sound crazy, but it really works well with the whole process taking less than an hour.
I haven't had to re-paint my justa emblem ever. You other folks are just jealous and can't admit it. Trying to blame your problems on a justa is very sad. :frown2::frown2: Jim
The best a Justa can do is draft behind an S or JCW so the MINI in the front is doing all the work, including clearing the bugs. No wonder their emblems have to work so hard
Well, I will say you JCW folks do have one advantage going for you. You can get the the next gas station or repair shop faster then I can. Of course I don't need to get to either of those, but that is beside the point. Jim
