My best friend had a 914 when I was in high school. It was the 4cyl (same engine as in the VW 412)...but had been modified for a bit more "go". Larger displacement, header...etc. The car could corner to the point you'd think you were going to peel the tires off the rims. It was a lot of fun to drive. But rust was a constant problem, especially around the flip up headlights. What color was it? Well, BRG of course! [emoji1]

I had no idea how cramped these things are. Guess I won't be driving one.
It's pretty long so if you want to skip the discussion of the history, the look under the hood, etc, jump to about 17:10.

Aside from the unfortunate kerfuffle at around 5:15 that was a fun ride.

Here's an onboard lap of the 'Ring in the Schirra MINI endurance racer. I wish they'd picked a better place to mount the camera. Also wonder why these guys didn't run in the N24 this year.

That car has a beautiful voice. What a song it sings.

Wow, what a rally! If only the commentary was in English. But the cars, etc, are beautiful. Everything from classic MINIs and Healeys to Porsches (of course) and Alfas to Mustangs, Cobras, De Tomasos, Ferraris (including Breadvan), ETC. Many beautiful classics I couldn't name if I had to.
If you don't understand the French, don't mute to avoid it, the cars make up for it. Just hang in there through the introductory bits. :yesnod:

Very nice video.
Was that track Mont Tremblant? -
Not sure where this is really fits, so mods, if you need to move it or delete it, do so. It's trucks, not sports cars. In the 80's, the SCCA had a showroom stock pickup series called the Coors Racetruck Challenge. This was on road courses, not off-road or rally, etc. I used to watch back then, but it was pretty short-lived.

It would be interesting if IMSA came up with something similar, since there is the Continental Tire Sports Car Championship. But---and maybe it's me---pickups just seem larger nowadays. The Coors series had some rather compact trucks, and I'm not sure there are any appropriate models anymore for such a series.
Fun video to look back on, though. This is from Brainerd, MN. -

I remember that series. It was a hoot to watch. At one regional race at Mid-Ohio a bunch of those truck racers showed up to do a test & setup day for their race at Mid-Ohio a week or so later. The SCCA dumped them into our IT race. Holy carp those guys used their bumpers to move anyone & everyone out of their way. Man it was not a fun race weekend for me. I survived, but just about wore out my mirrors.
