The death of Dan Gurney has me reminiscing a bit and that led me to this one. Not actually a great race for him (or I might have posted in the RIP thread) but still a fun blast from the past. Speaking of, "blast from the past" is also, I suspect, why the poster left in a few commercials from the era of this "Glory Days" rebroadcast.

I had a Holy Crap moment watching...had no idea the Chaparral's huge, high wing was active!!! :Jawdrop: I didn't know it could change pitch at all, much less so severely, and never noticed it happening until now. Looks like it might be activated by the brake pedal?

It's almost worth watching just to see Denny Hulme screaming through the pits in reverse after they told him he couldn't reenter the race with missing bodywork!

one for the ages. Timo Bernhard in the 919 on the Nordschleife at full tilt, clearly quicker than Stefan Beloff's 6:11 lap around the full Ring, which was the benchmark for so long. Now Porsche resets it for the next 35 years

Interesting he didn’t use the banking at the carousel. I wonder if the possibility of the 919 undertray being damaged was the reason, or his line was just faster in that car.

the carousel is brutal on cars. Modern high downforce designs probably work better on the outside line. Raising the ride height enough to make it through those concrete plates without damage would compromise the car too much for the rest of the track.

I think there was a recent F1 car driven on the track, although nowhere near full tilt, and it took that same line.

That brings back memories for me. I was racing at Mid-Ohio one weekend. It was an SCCA regional race. A whole load of those trucks showed up to do a test day in preparation for a race they had the following weekend. Our SCCA region had the great idea they should run with our classes, ITA, ITB & ITC.

Oh man were those things fast & talk about super aggressive driving. They were like great white sharks swimming with us guppies. When those guys came bump drafting up behind me I got the heck out of the way. Those that didn't ended up with body work to do. :Dead:
