Wow. Don't watch this if customizing classic Porsches makes you cringe. I think both cars are gorgeous. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwln2ji-yOE"]Emory Motorsports Custom Porsche 356s - Jay Leno's Garage - YouTube[/ame]

Now that is some proper racing! 3 pedals, gear shifter, and one-handed......that's the way it should be.

That review is a great example of the unfortunate effects of a reviewer's personal preferences. Qualitative is subjective. Uh oh, I'm having Top Gear flashbacks. :biggrin5: In fact, nearly everything he said about why the Toyobaru was more fun than the Mazda was a reason I'd have more fun driving the Mazda. An intentional power slide to turn the car and set your line for launch out of a corner is one thing but otherwise all four wheels glued to the road like the car is on rails, that's what makes me grin. I'm not entertained by the need to constantly compensate to avoid tail-happy slides that waste my energy and momentum. And I'm not slating the reviewer, we all do it! That's my point. Based on what I saw if I'd been doing that comparison you'd have heard me frustrated by the GT-86 and then laughing while enjoying the Mazda, the more fun car; i.e., my personal opinions and preferences influencing my review. He said something like "The guys in their Porsche's would pass you but then they'd look in their mirrors and see you sliding around and know you're having more fun." Wrong, sir! Well, for me. I'd feel sorry for you drifting around back there. Make a few adjustments to your suspension and change those tires so you can make the most of that greater power to weight ratio, then we can have some fun.
He never mentioned that the top goes down on the Mazda. That there is a big plus. My thoughts on those cars are pretty much the same as yours.

I've said it here before that I was lucky enough to be at the first Rennsport at LRP in 2001 and to be able to see/hear and touch more than one 917K was pretty much sexual! My ex-wife couldn't quite figure that out!!
