one for the ages. Timo Bernhard in the 919 on the Nordschleife at full tilt, clearly quicker than Stefan Beloff's 6:11 lap around the full Ring, which was the benchmark for so long. Now Porsche resets it for the next 35 years
Interesting he didn’t use the banking at the carousel. I wonder if the possibility of the 919 undertray being damaged was the reason, or his line was just faster in that car.
the carousel is brutal on cars. Modern high downforce designs probably work better on the outside line. Raising the ride height enough to make it through those concrete plates without damage would compromise the car too much for the rest of the track. I think there was a recent F1 car driven on the track, although nowhere near full tilt, and it took that same line.
Nobody's posted here for a while, but I'm not sure where this is more appropriate. Supercars in Australia have a feeder series called SuperUtes. I think these are pretty sexy. I posted a long time ago a video of the Coors Racetruck Challenge, run in the 80's. This is somewhat reminiscent of that, but the trucks are more modified. I wish Supercars would do COTA again. If they ever do return, I hope they also bring SuperUtes.
Thanks for that. Was the Coors series the same as the SCCA truck series from the 80's? I was running in a regional SCCA race the week before the race trucks were scheduled to have a big race at Mid-Ohio. A bunch of those trucks entered the regional race to get some extra track time in. Oh my God! They were like sharks swimming with the guppy's. I couldn't believe how fast those thing went. There were some great driver's in that series.
That brings back memories for me. I was racing at Mid-Ohio one weekend. It was an SCCA regional race. A whole load of those trucks showed up to do a test day in preparation for a race they had the following weekend. Our SCCA region had the great idea they should run with our classes, ITA, ITB & ITC. Oh man were those things fast & talk about super aggressive driving. They were like great white sharks swimming with us guppies. When those guys came bump drafting up behind me I got the heck out of the way. Those that didn't ended up with body work to do.
