I'm not saying those numbers are impossible from a sprintex. We know it CAN reach those numbers. I mean my car did. What I'm saying doesn't make sense is how he got them. That is all.

You may or may not remember the Mini here in Central Florida that made 250whp/250wtq on a dyno one day (with stock head, stock cam and stock header) by just playing with the torque limiters but since then has yet to make anything over mid 180's on any other dyno since. The Particular local tuner that did his car then locked his ECU and walked away. I got told a story from a dyno operator recently of that very same tuner tuning a guys Evo, put it on the dyno. Got it good and hot, did a pull. Then proceeded to answer e-mails on his lap top while "tuning" the car. He then did a stone cold dyno pull and the car made 15 more hp. He closed is lap top and said done.

Hell if I can find them I'll post the dyno my car made that I turned into NASA for a specific number from back in 2010. That IIRC correct was 282 and 234 (Nasa gave me a limit of 286whp for the class)

Well, this is a very useful / technical MINI forum - go ahead and tell us right here instead of beating around the bush.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they just saying that the torque limiter settings were basicly holding the motor back from making the power it was capable of and by adjusting those settings it finally, for lack of a better term, let it loose? Seems to me that there should be a lot of power out of a motor with all those goodies.

Still sort of freaks me out that that was only with the 64mm pulley & 17.3 lbs of boost though. :D

The bigger question is what is the Torque limiter actually doing to limit the torque on a R53. What does it do... pull timing, pull fuel (not likely), or close the throttle body? All of these things you'd see it on the data. The R53 has no way of limiting the boost (like the R56 can). There isn't a boost control solenoid and the bypass valve is all mechanical. If it were doing something like pulling timing or closing the throttle body you could easily see that during a dyno pull. It would be pulling it's hair out so to speak on one of the twincharged cars years ago making 300 ft/lbs of torque. Instead it works mostly with the traction control in which you can actually feel it working.
No Stand alone ECU has a torque limiter and yet no stand alone ecu makes any significant power gains over a well tuned R53 ecu running parts that operate within the parameters.
People smudge numbers all the time trying to sell parts. I'm not selling anything. So believe what you want. If you believe you'll pick up 30hp from turning a torque limiter off. Be my guest.

Quick qustion that needs to be asked. On the dynosheet dreammaker posted... What RPM did he rev it to? Don't believe a dyno you can't see RPM on. Simple as that.

What needs to be asked.......is, why are you so interested? Really? We all know that you are not at all interested in this mod, but yet, you are asking and asking, why?

You are such a ...... a....... whats the use.

Here is a dyno from Greece. Looks like a lot of rev, but it also looks like the combo wasnt dropping off on HP even that high!!

Great numbers..... and where does he have a web site that sells anything?? In GREECE??

Note: Looks like 12-13 tuning pulls untill the final number..

LOL.. Nate, they wont come on any sites that allow the BS that goes on here in the STATES. It is usually insulting to most Eu guys when they are challenged with 'trolling' and mis-truths, stupid unrelated scenarios, People trying to discredit and destroy for another base or Vendor.

I just take the info as information.. I was not there, I wont be there, the car will never be here for me to see or engage, then WHY should I ( or others) try to discredit anything on a MINI site?? Most people are honest and post actual real data as it was presented to them. ( there were a few that totally discredit everything from anyone but their own. And most people on any of the sites are aware of whom they are.. yes??)

I do know that the guys in GREECE ( all 3 of them) have been banging knuckles and twisting wrenches on improving their Performance levels for YEARS!! Just think of all the support there is in GREECE where they are !! Duh... I really dont think they would come over just to take crap from the few.. yes??

Its not the ECU that makes the power Jim, its the hardware you have for engine mods.
So why go to a standalone?
Its easier. Theres no adaptives to try and over write your changes, and nothing un nessicary like tourque limmiters to deal with.

So explain this software torque limiter we R53 owners are supposed to have?

So you are saying a custom tune cannot make more power? Really? That's new to me. So why does everyone get custom tunes? Concerning the standalone, $2500 is a lot of money to spend just to not be annoyed by limits and stuff, but even those are being addressed  But don't get me wrong, if someone races and the sort it would be worth it? I guess?

Here's a very novice answer to that. Our cars have a torque limit, when that limit is passed, the ECU does it's voodoo and reduces power and or messes with traction, not sure what exactly? With a tuning tool like FA or the like, you can go in and make adjustments to those maps. Any help for ya?

    Not really.......lol

Anyone know what these stock limits are? Why are the limits there to begin with (parts longevity)?
