Hey guys, I recently replaced my front right strut and mount with oem parts. Had a loud-ish clunking from up there before and now it's still there but quieter. Have any of you noticed that the mount has a little wiggle to it when the strut/spring/mount assembly is out of the car? The old one had a little wiggle to it before disassembly and the new parts once re assembled have the same, though slightly less wiggle going on. I've n'er dealt with these type of mounts with the bearing and rubber in them.
Hey, that graphic looks wrong, the pictures look correct. The dust cap with the washer just below IT. I assembled it in the reverse of dis assembly. They're in between #7 and the mount. Unless this car's previous owner had work done wrong of course.
Yes... The RealOEM graphic is incorrect... I always document with pictures when I take something apart.... My little grey cells thank me when I do....
I'm the same way. Then even after I reassemble correctly I still check to make sure I didn't F up. The mount was ok looking, but the strut I was able to move up and down with ease, and it also made a funky gritty noise, all of those dust covers on my car don't cover the strut rod, I'll be zip tying them to the strut this weekend. I'm hoping that since this strut was so bad that the clunking was coming from both of them. I'll know after I replace that one. Was just curious if that mount wiggle factor is normal.
Did you torque strut nut #3 properly? Sometimes that nut can be the source of the knocking noise if it isn't tight...
I put it tight. I didn't torque it however. I'm going to pick up a torque wrench this weekend. My first one ever. I'm excited. should I get 3/8 or half? I've only owned gm vehicles and one honda and I was never really worried about torque specs, but now that I got a nice car I wanna keep it nice :cornut:
Are you talking about the bearing race? They shouldn't be loose.... Are you reusing the old strut mounts? If so the bearings could be shot... I went with the IE fixed camber units which use the OEM bearing off of the BMW Z3... Very satisfied with them... You can get them from Outmotoring Stage 1: 'Fixed' Camber Plates - Mini R55,R56,R57,R58,R59. at Ireland Engineering | Performance BMW Parts and more.
Hmmmmm. I've had some knocking noise from my let front since installing my front shocks. I used Real OEM for my diagram when assembling, because I didn't reuse any old parts and put everything together before swapping it all out. I've suspected my used sway bar links I bought might have been bad too. Just haven't had time, nor the desire, to figure it out yet.
