Floored me when I moved to Missouri and found out they do not offer drivers education classes in high school's. It is all private commercial drivers schools. As you can imagine the lower on the socio-economic scale you are is the level of education you get. So economically challenged drivers teach their kids to become the next generation of morons on the road cause their grandfathers/mothers were in the same boat.

Let me share a story with you. Sorry for the length, but it is an interesting take on how bad things are here.
I moved to GA from FL 3 years ago to help a friend start a business. Shortly after moving, I got my license changed over to FL to stay all good with the PoPo and all. Oh, and for reference, I am a plain vanilla white guy, no issues with the law, and try hard to keep my nose clean.
We timed the business perfectly with the collapse of the economy and it was pretty much a wash, so I moved back to GA after 8 or 9 months. Some of my stuff was still in storage in FL, including my desk with my birth certificate.
My parents still had one of my originals, so I got it and went down to the DMV to change my license back to GA. I get there, and there are maybe 3 other English-speaking people in a large packed room to get licenses. You have a check-in desk where you present all of your documentation.
They needed:
A Bank Statement or Utility Bill
Certified Birth Certificate
And several other items, which I don't recall off the top of my head.
Now, remember, this is about 9 months after I moved and maybe 6 since the license change to FL.
I have my bank statement with my forwarded address label, since the bank won't change your address without a valid driver's license and the birth certificate.
She says the label is not acceptable on the bank statement and hands it back. I ask her since I just changed it over and I have my FL driver's license, and they have my license on file, plus the items I have, that isn't good enough? I mean, you have my photo in the computer, I can show my ORIGINAL SS card, valid DL from FL, etc... Nope.
*sigh*
Ok. So, I have to get a rental agreement, since I live with my girlfriend and everything is in her name, so no utilities.
Finally get all this finished and march back in.
Oh, your birth certificate is not certified.
But it's my original birth certificate.
Not certified. It doesn't matter.
Again, a room full of people who speak little to no English. I look around and ask her if all of these people have this documentation?
She didn't even acknowledge that I spoke. :mad2:
So, I then have to go online and spend close to $60 for a certified BC. Wait 10 days to get it. Blah blah.
Back to the DMV.
Hey, the gatekeeper from hell let me in! W00t!
Here is what the woman behind the counter says:
Oh, it is still in the files. You don't even need a new picture. I will just re-print the old one...
Finally get my driver's license.
Next time, I will forge the damned documents like the illegals are doing and make it easy on myself.

Next time you do this, look over the room....... Search out the most non-American looking person in the room...... Approach that person....... Offer them $10.00 to show you how they get it done.... Done deal ..... you're out of there in 10 minutes.....
Oh, and it helps if you don't speak English..... They will move you through faster if there is a communication barrier. -
It just shows how backwards this country is moving. They make life absolutely miserable for the people who are doing things by the book and reward the ones who are not. We are heading -- rapidly and out of control -- towards the end of the way of life we are used to, unfortunately, because of our lack of caring for things that matter.

Saw this today, reminded me of this thread. I got a 95% (missed one question.) How'd YOU do?

Gotta pick a bone on-
18. When you approach a traffic signal displaying a steady yellow light, you must:
A. Go through the intersection before it turns red
B. Stop if it is safe to do so
C. Be prepared to stop
D. Slow down and proceed with caution
I put 'be prepared to stop' and the answer is 'stop if it is safe to do so'.......is it not the same thing? guess not
14. When you are merging onto the freeway, you should be driving:
A. At or near the same speed as the traffic on the freeway
B. 5 to 10 miles per hour slower than the traffic on the freeway
C. The posted speed limit for traffic on the freeway
I went with 'C' while the correct answer is 'A' although real world it is certainly 'A'
10. A diamond shaped sign means:
A. Yield
B. Stop
C. Warning
I put A and the answer is C, is not a Yield a warning?
Oh well drivers school for me <sigh> -
If you are too close to the intersection to stop, then you cannot do so in a safe manner. Slamming on the brakes and sliding through sideways is not safe. Fun, but not safe... :arf:
A diamond is not a triangle... Yield is a triangle, point down.
Warning signs are a square sign turned so one corner is down, hence the diamond-like shape. -

The diamond shape question is a trick question, sort of. The warning signs are a square, 4 equal length sides, 90 degrees to each other, sitting on a corner. A diamond could have equal length sides, or not, but they are not 90 degrees to each other.
