Well Yes, I would sell my MINI for a classic mini.

But the classic must have been fully restored to very high standards (No rust anywhere) and it make lots of power even if it has a Honda V-TEC.

I would be looking to a classic mini that I can drive everyday without any issues.

Oh and it must be Chili Red.

 

I'd buy the right one, but no Honda guts in it. 1275 S spec for me.

 

A V-T-E-C (Extra hyphens just for Dave) would be tempting, and that's probably what I'd do if I HAD to get rid of my MINI. But a VTAC (Misspelling just for Apok) means increasing the length 2 inches (I'm sure many of us would love an extra two inches), which I'm not sure I'd be too happy about (on a MINI).

But, I don't, so I'll probably add a Classic to the stable at some point, if I can find one reasonably priced in good condition. Don't even care so much about the year with the exception of the Clubman, that I can't bring myself to do.

 

I like to be my cars warranty. Its more FUN that way.

 

This kid I know have both new and classic and he is try sell the classic right now check it out is up here in Akron, OH.

If I added a classic mini it would only look classic. I would not buy an older one because of so may issues. I would buy a brand new older style body and build it or have it built from the ground up.

I would have it all done modern and custom equipment just like you can have a complete 69 Camaro with everything as modern as you want. You can buy the licensed body shell and all the body parts from Dynacorn.

To me I don't care about a car being 100% original with a older VIN. I want it to be a one of a kind original looking MINI. Think about it, "Eleanor" was created by Chip Foose not Ford or Carol Shelby and most people want that car.

But hey that's just me and my taste and "if" I win the lottery one day this will be one of those things I will have built.

 

Not the R53 maybe the countryman but I'd rather have all three.

 

As a current owner of both, there's no comparing them. I love my Austin Cooper S and enjoy it as often as I can.

Given the original question and for reasons beyond listing, I'm afraid no sale here. The modern day Cooper S would get the nod.

Sorry, I grew up all Honda and started my love of cars with a 94 Del Sol VTEC.

The B18C5 used for the minitec, or whatever they called it, is a damned fine motor and super easy to work on. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one.

 

Given that my first ever car was a green classic Mini, that would be a resounding "Yes"!!!!! Unfortunately, as that was many, many years ago, the colour is the only detail of the car that I can remember.

 

Had a Classic [1959 Morris Mini Minor] but sold it when I went off to college. Would I buy another? Sure, but I would not sell any of the 3 "new" MINIs I already have just to get another Classic. If I ever got another, it would be mostly to show...too damned expensive to drive everyday and parts WILL break the bank.

 

Haven't seen that, a rear engine/rear wheel drive VTEC would be cool. Only downside is it may be a wee bit tail heavy like a GT3. But it would be a blast to drive!

I agree that it takes a certain amount of "involvement" to use a classic car of any kind as a daily driver, but a lot of people do.

I would like to have another, I had a '62 Cooper S 1100 back in the day and I loved it.....I will have another.

.......probably sooner rather than later, since they don't make them anymore and good ones are just getting more and more expensive.

I think I'd like to do a powertrain swap too, I was thinking a Countryman AWD in a Classic wagon would be fun!
