I'm thinking more in line of: for the price of one of your mods, somebody can get into a unique MINI and join the MINI family. Even join Motoring Alliance. There goes the neighborhood.

Really... the rules are crazy. I was talking with a buddy of mine at the BMW dealership... asking why the prices on old parts went up so much (a few years ago parts almost doubled and getting Euro parts here became an issue. He said it was due to a law (both EU and US) that was enacted... for example they can sell me just material... as that’s not a car part, it’s textile. Interesting for sure..

The back seats can be removed and a protective cage/screen installed into a base Clubman with opaque white [or whatever color is desired] over the rear windows. -
Yes, and if BMW/Mini had known about the tax they could have shipped them with a back seat then at the port removed it and added the screen. Then they would not have been hit with the tax.
