The Japanese driver managed to keep his car intact behind a classic Mini Cooper for a whopping 20 seconds before he sent it crashing onto the metal barrier. He says the brakes died on him just before the corner. A Google translation of his side of the incident reads: "My SUBARU WRX STI had the brake fade then crash during my sports driving at the suportsland SUZUKA ,a small racing circuit..The vehicle is completely from factory, normal bakes….If you like sports driving in the circuit, you must replace the brakes and brake fluid. They all are made for slow driving on the street." [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4y0nMG0rG-A#t]スãƒÂルWRX STIã§ペーパーãƒÂック&フェーÉをãŠã“ã—クラッシュ WRX CRASG - YouTube[/ame]
I am not a track guy but I have had brakes fail on me, sure sounded like the brakes locked up just before he hit the grass and before the barrier. Looked a lot more like a bad case of the SPAZ:crazy:
Looks like he forgot where the turn was more than a brake issue. He never let off the gas until he saw he was screwed.
No way he had fade that quickly, I can hold my breath for the amount of time he was on the track before wrecking, and I'm old... Either he had a castrophic brake failure, or maybe, just maybe, he was coming in too hot relative to the MINI and the Corner, and did some threshold braking with the wheel turned on a wet track. Can't really tell for sure what happened but I don't see how he could have boiled fluid or fried a pad that quickly. Anyway, it's nice documentary footage for his insurance company!! Which, incidentally, is why you never put an incident at an HPDE that leads to significant damage on youtube, wether it be your car or someone else's...
Do those Subaru's come with EBC pads.:lol: The STI comes with big Brembos and the guy behind the wheel cannot drive and he has video proof of that now. He only went about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile tops and was not even driving as fast as I did leaving the Atlanta car rental area Sunday night in a Chevy Impala making 90 turn after a few sweppers.
The wipers came on after the crash to mock him. :biggrin5: There were some weird noises in the car before the crash. I wonder if he was texting his girlfriend to tell her how cool it was to be a "sporting driver in the circuit."
This just in, from the Yokohama Gazette: Results from the Suzuka First Annual Four Corner Text While You Drive on a Wet Track Quarter Mile drive-offs are in! The "Go Daddy" Subie, driven by Danica Patrick, after receiving a threatening text message from Richie Incognito, goes into the wall, despite brilliant driving by Patrick up to that point, by her account. Patrick blamed Incognito, her crew chief, her left side tire changer, a kid in row fifteen of the grandstands and her third-grade teacher for her loss."
Hmmm... No comment. There's just nothing good to say and anything funny could be construed as politically incorrect. Great laugh though.
This is totally inaccurate and horribly unfair. Danica never would have been going fast enough to crash.
Surprised he didn't just say he got "tagged" from behind and it put him in the wall.. that or once he got close to the mini it took the air off his front end and he lost forward bite, till he hit the guard rail!!!!
The way I see it: The Mighty STI driver saw that little Mini and thought I can blow the doors off that tiny car so I'll take on the bend.....then Oh **** I've focused on the Mini so much I forgot about the bend.....then I planted my foot on the brakes and never let go.....Like Crashton says the hand brake would have sorted that off. I would say several heavy braking laps would be needed before brake fade sets in.....flat out in 3rd..brain in neutral!
I'm dumbfounded. I've done plenty of track events and have plenty of oval track experience as well. I think you'd have to work hard to screw up that bad. I don't think he was going over 50 mph, if that. He's dang lucky the Mini didn't turn into him. I'd more than likely chalk that up to thinning the herd!
