One British police force runs both Scoobies and Mitsubushi Evos, so presumably they actually know which is best!
:cornut:THAT'S GREAT! It even has a spoiler. Oh by the way, things are going fairly well over here in the Colonies but we'd like to trade you one each Barrack Obama for a Dame Margaret Thatcher. Who do I see about that?:lol: Jason
yep, the same. I traded it in on the Benz in May last year though. the motors on 07-09 STI's are like glass....Subaru screwed the pooch and I wasn't gonna sit on it long-term after watching friends go through warranty repairs on the bottom end of the motor.
That may explain the huge number of late model STI's that I see for sale on Autotrader. That's sad Subaru used to build a very strong car.
there were a few issues. they put out a "Stop Sale" on ALL turbo models. Apparently, they put out a lean tune and that caused #4 to detonate (it always runs lean due to the head design). Then, there was a recall on a VIN range for improper machining of the crankshaft (mine was affected). So many people were popping motors that Subaru ran out of remanufactured cores....they started having local deals crack open blocks to replace things. The consensus is that its a perfect storm of things; lean tune, weak ringlands, the crank issue, etc. You used to be able to run 400whp on stock internals; no more. I think they finally solved it for late '09+ but that's no consolation. Still....I paid $29k for mine and got $25.5K on trade, 18mos later so I'm not complaining. The paint quality was TERRIBLE though....my back fenders were peppered so bad despite putting mudflaps on the day I brought it home. First year of water-based paint or something.
There a lots of drug forfeiture vehicles around here that have been "converted" to Police cars. Most are just for show and are driven around to different events and schools.
PGT-Thanks for filling me in on the STI perfect storm. I wonder if their lean tune was them trying to squeeze some mileage out of the motor.
