With the warmer weather approaching wanted to ask you all what's your recommendation for oil grade?
I'm here in the outer boroughs of NYC doing 97% local travel. I've been using 5W30 all year round but have been thinking of using a heavier grade oil due to all the local driving in the warm weather.
Any recommendations or should I just keep with the 5W?

Just use the recommended oil year round, that's the reason they have multi viscosity oil, so you don't have to use summer and winter oil.

0w40 full synthetic is what I have used for years. The brand I use is Mobile 1. I've used it for track, back road bombing & chugging along to the grocery store.

You do realize that this will generate a million opinions. LOL ;)

As long as you use a good quality oil you will be fine. What you are using now will work all year. Just make sure to change it when needed & check your oil at least once a week.

I’ve seen some very heated responses to oil questions on other sites. The civility shone here is a testament to the caliber of individuals who use this site.

5w30 is fine just change it more often. Like 4-5 k not 8-15k. Clean oil is more important than the type of oil, as MINI’s love clean oil.

The price of oil and a oil filter is minuscule compared to the cost to repair the damage caused by not changing your oil often enough.

Thanks for the response everyone. I'll stick with good 'ol 5W30 and my usual 5K intervals since it's mostly city driving.
